can I get away with a HF for the occasional work?

Swag Offroad has a pretty sweet upgrade kit for the HF tube roller. From what I've seen, it does well.

I have this one. Bought it used. Works well for the odd project here or there. Using it daily in a fabrication setting, would work but a professional setup would be better. I have a HF power head form their pipe threader to run it.
