Tubing bender recommendations

Its a pretty long ram, it will almost get a 90 deg. bend with one full stroke...but not quite, I havnt done much with it yet but will let you know as I get more experienced with it.

thats looking cool with the air powered cylinder. What die did you get, and how much total to get bending?

:haha::haha:

A little geeked about it huh?

I've been there before. I know the software is a nice addition to have, but is it necessary, and how much extra was that, like 300$

You can get the very basic Bend Tech EZ for $69.00. The next step up is EZ3D which is $149.00. Then Bend Tech Pro is $275.00. One of the cool thing about the Bend Tech programs, is that say if you start with EZ for $69 and you decide you want one of the better programs, you can do so for just the difference in cost between the two programs

I have the BT Pro and couldn't imagine bending tube without it. In Pro you can design a complete assembly, be able to see it from various angles, dimensiion it, and change any part of it before you bend a single piece of tube. You can also print out wrappers for all your notches. Really pretty simple to do. There is a demo video on YouTube also.

I finally finished my JD Model 3 hydro converions. It works rather well.

I bought plans for mine from Takacs cycles at gottrikes.com it uses pro tools dies. Havent built yet but plan to start this week. The plans were inexpensive, seems simple to build and its air/hyd.

Are those plans for the hydro conversion?

No the plans are for the bender with air over Hyd, though it bends vert. Instead of horizontal like most benders. But with an 8 ton ram not sure I care wich way it bends. Checkem out at gottrikes.com would like to hear any opinions or concerns before I start building. jim

I built this bender too. Haven't got any dies for it yet.

Can somebody explain the terminology with the dies? 120* and 240* How far can you bend with each? I was planning on buying a pre-fab cage, but now am thinking a bender is a better purchase.

A 120* die is just as it sounds. The die itself is 120* of a circle. Due to variables such as the start position of the tube in the die and the springback of the tube you will only get aproximately a 105* bend in a piece of tube with a 120* die, give or take. So if you want the capability of doing a 180* bend you will need to get the 240* die. A lot of guys purchase only the 120* dies to save money figuring they will never need to bend beyond it's limit. I don't like to limit myself, so I have always bought the 240* dies. Even though technically you could bend farther than 180* with a 240* die, if you go much beyond 180* (not counting allowing for springback) you'll never get the tube out of the bender or the die.

Hope that helped.

Ok cool that clears it up! I just never knew what the degrees were in reference to.
