What are you tubing experts using to cap the ends. I had a welded on cap break off when the bumper fell off the stands while between coats of paint. I am trying to find something round to use. Any idea where to get something, possibly a large bearing or the like?

take some plate the same thickness or thicker as the wall of the tube, and a hole saw the same od as the tube. now take the piece you cut and weld it in the end of the tube. then plug weld the hole in the center.

If there is an iron worker near you that dose decorative iron work (ex: gates etc.) they have some pretty nifty steel balls in all diameters. Split them in two and you have really nice caps for tubing.

AA manufacturing sells caps... cheap.

I just went and got some Smittybuilt Bumper caps

I just make my own, cut a small sliver of the tubing you are using, clean up the burrs, with a marker trace the inside dia of the tube onto a peice of flat bar. (now this is what I do->) using the chop saw cut "near" the trace line into an octagon. w/ a belt sander or grinder smooth it out to fit inside the tube and weld it up. if you mildly suck at welding (like me) flap sand the welds smooth.

i thik freeze plugs look like crap but do the job, and leaving them open is ugly. but thats me.
