I almost cringe to post this but I'm currently citified without an area to do a lift swap. I could delay it but this lift is over 10 years old and past due. 4wheelparts offers the superlift for my 82 and it's pretty reasonable installed all things considered (no car payments and it would be "warrantied") compared to my not so stellar wrenching skills. They don't carry the Tuffcountry but I could probably order it myself and they would put it on.

What do you guys think. It would be a 4 inch lift. Superlift that bad or is Tough country just out of the ball park that much better.

I ran a 6" Superlift Superride for a couple of years and loved it. In fact my friend liked it so much he put a 4" all spring kit on his 86 Suburban and loved it.

Another buddy of mine runs 4" springs on an 86 pickup and likes it so much he is ordering another 4" for his other 86.

I don't have any personal experience with the Tough Country so I can't offer any advice there.
 
thanks for the replies guys. I basically want to get the slop out of the truck and gain more control, and lose the blocks in the rear. I'm running skinny 33 x 10.50 right with the 10 bolt in the back. I may just redo the back springs myself with one of the two above and get rid of the saggy rear left

So does soft mean sloppy going down the road and great off road or do you still have a lot of control with the Tuff country springs on the highway.
 
I had great performance both on and off road. No complaints here what so ever with the Superlift Superride series.

If you get the Superlift HD series I'm sure it will be much stiffer.
 
I have 6" Superlift HD springs front and rear on my stepside. The ride is actually not much harsher then stock but you do know you're riding in a lifted truck. Course having Bilstien shock on all corners and weighting just over 6000lbs I think help soften then ride some too. I will say this though if you put a few hundred pounds in the bed the stance doesn't change much but it rides really smooth :thumb:.
 
Agreed... I've towed a trailer with a car on it with my 8" Superlift HD springs and they held the stance of the truck without squatting much and it pulled awesome.
 
I have been a Superlift fan from day one. I have installed no less than a dozen (at least that is what I can think of off the top of my head) on various trucks. They start out a little stiff but, a week or so and they will loosen up and ride very well for a lifted spring.

I've had plenty of Superlift springs over the years, and recently swapped them for a Touch Country with soft fronts.

A big improvement in ride quality.
 
I'll be watching this thread...currently considering different 3-4" lift options for my '90 blazer.
 
every truck I've been in that had Superlift stuff rode like a dump truck... high spring rates from what i remember...
 
Over the years I've owned super lift, sky jacker , and tuff country, all were either 4" or 6" kits or systems. All in all, I would recommend the tuff country or the sky jacker as opposed to the super lift , my last K5 had a 6" sky jacker soft ride system (springs front and back) with some of their shocks as well and it honestly rode great.

So my vote would be Sky jacker soft rides or Tuff country :D
 
Well....I guess that's about 50/50! Thanks for the replies. I did notice the difference in spring rates. I have Suburban so that may effect some of this compared to a CK5.
 
I have a set of 4" Superlift HD on my M1009. And yes it is not a soft ride.

It depends on what you are looking for, less flex on the Superlift, but less sagg when towing/loaded. The others offer better DD conditions and more flex offroad.
 
I use to run tuff countrys springs at 4 corners. My springs are mixed now do to the last owner its now bds front and tcs rear not feeling the bds kinda stiff but i love tcs.
