I pulled what I thought was the water temp sensor for and electrical water temp gauge and replaced it with a mechanical gauge. I was thumbing through a street & performance catalog and the sensor I pulled looks just like the knock sensor in the catalog. I removed the sensor from the block just above the oil pan on the right side. It was in a water jacket.
Thanks

Most knock sensors go there . My carbed 83 had one there for the ESC spark computer . And my 93 TBI has one there , pretty sure my Vortec Sub has one too .

When you replace it , use the right engines one , 305's and 350's are far enough apart in harmonics to require different sensors .

Ill be putting it back then. I was told the engine is a 400 sb with vette TPI but who knows.
Ill find another hole to put temp sensor in.

GM locates the knock sensor on the left or right block drain area in order to "hear" cylinder knock clearer with less noise from the valves, rocker arms, tappets, timing chain and injectors. When I converted my 81 Truck ( 350 ) to TBI, I had to relocate my water temp sensor ( Auto Meter Guage ) from near the thermostat to an unused plug on the water pump. I originally moved it to the head by the exhaust port, but the temperature always read 250F. Now it reads 180 - 190 . Check your water pump, there may be a plug installed. Your tuned port intake may hide the plug. Good luck.

I used a single threaded hole waterneck from the late 70's and put my sender there , gets the temp of the water coming out of the motor before it hits the radiator .

Theres a block drain on the other side. I think Ill pull the pet cock and stick it there. Ill check the water pump first though.
Thanks
