Just had a body off resto done on my K5. Tranny had no issues prior to resto and has about 20K miles on rebuild. Tranny Shifts fine through gears unless you stop and turn off ignition (Operating temp). If you restart say within 5 minutes put in drive, the tranny does not want to shift out of first gear. It will but you have to drive it a ways. It does not have this problem unless you turn the iginition off. I can stop and start and it shifts fine. I did notice there was extra fluid in the tranny but I have drained to operating levels.

Sounds like you have a vacuum modulator issue or lack of vacuum to the modulator.
The thing regulates line pressure inside the trans using engine vacuum as it's guide.
if that is messed up your going to have a messed up shift sequence.

Check and make sure the vacuum line is not pinched or has a hole. Check to make sure you have vacuum getting to the trans, and make sure the vacuum line is hooked up to the correct vacuum port on the intake manifold. If in doubt check out a vacuum diagram.

X2 what boondocK5 said. For the record, the vacuum needs to be manifold vacuum.

Lets keep the double posting to a minimum. I thought i was going crazy when i clicked a post from the main page and did not see my response in it when I KNEW i replied to the thread. Double posting takes up bandwidth and also makes it harder for people to help you when you have a post going in multiple forums. At the least you should say something to the fact to see your same post in whichever other forum so some us of don't go crazy. :deal:

Thanks for the reply. I will check my lines today. As for the duplicate post..wasn't sure the of the correct forum. I will update on my findings after I do some checking.
