Had a question on my rig. To give a little background, it is an '84 K5 that had the stock 350 and 700r4 swapped over to a late 80's IROC 350 and a Turbo 400 by the prior owner. Anyway, I've had a small tranny leak so I decided to drop the old pan and gasket and install a new one tonight. What I noticed for the first time was that to make the swap work, they dropped the stock crossmember abut an inch and built a spacer above to support the 400. I attached a pict of it currently. This wasn't an issue until I installed the 4" lift. Now I see my knuckle is laying on the crossmember and if I put it in 4 wheel, it's going to definitely make some noise. Does anyone have a pict they could post for me of what a turbo 400 crossmember should look like? Also, the filter that was in the turbo 400 kit I picked up at the parts store is wrong. Instead of a flat one pictured, this one is tucked up alonside the housing. I left the old one in since it appeared they had just did a tranny oil change, but must have pinched the gasket. I have not seen one like this before, but then the only other turbo 400 I have had was a 2wd. Thanks.

The knuckle, right where the u-joint connects the two yokes on the top of the shaft. It is actually sitting right on the crossmember. I have some other crossmembers at home that may work, but I wanted to see what one for the 400 was supposed to look like if someone happened to have a picture handy.

i bet you mean the cv joint. i think the crossmemeber you need is the W shaped one. it's higher in the center so you can take out the homemede mount.

Yeah you need the other X-member.It looks like somebody has made a spacer between the adapter and X-member.I have one if your interested.

Not mine, but here's what they look like.

No, looks to me like he HAS the short adapter, instead of replacing the crossmember, they made an adapter to bridge the difference between the short and tall adapter/crossmeber.

Half a dozen one way, six the other I guess. Would certainly have been smarter/easier to just get the crossmember the tranny/t-case came from.

"W" or "Single Hump" crossmember will likely solve your issue with the driveshaft. But cause one with the exhaust.

Thanks. Exhaust isn't an issue since it is being sh*tcanned soon for a new setup. It is getting a little weak in spots and they also brought the tips right out in front of the rear wheels. I had to cut the ends off since they interefered with the rear 4" lift springs when I put them in.

If you are playing around under the truck, any chance you can measure the distance from bottom of frame rail to the bottom of that crossmember? (just a 2x4 across the bottom then the gap measured to the frame rail would be accurate enough)

It seems like the later crossmembers/t-cases hang down a lot more, but I can't figure out why. They match the t-case, in your picture, you can clearly see that. The single hump crossmember alone will provide frontal protection for your t-case, whereas now the t-case is nothing but a rock catcher.
