Picked up a complete turbo setup for my truck for $300. Every thing is covered in thick oil/grease. I want to clean everything up before I install it. Would like to open up the turbo to to inspect and clean too. Is there anything I should know before I try and open it up?

What happened to my reply????:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: WTF?

Yes, mine was a pain. Soak the nuts & bolts and some will still break, strip, or round off. You can only use an open ended wrench on one or two of 'em:mad::mad:

The nut that holds the vane on is reverse thread and will snap off easily:mad:

I bought a cheap rebuild kit off eBay but haven't installed it yet. Haven't found a parts supplier either:(

Any reason that the bolts broke? Where they rusted bad?

Rust, extreme heat, more rust.....the usual suspects:crazy:

IIRC check the parts list of the rebuild kits. Some of them have fewer parts. I can't remember the actual number of parts but there were only two types. I got the higher number, well, just because.
