75-K5
3/4 ton status
Have been getting a lot done over the past few weekends. Here's what we accomplished this past weekend (after preparing for several weeks)
My '87 K5: 6" Superlift and 3/4 tons (14sf rear
) already done. Ready for Phase 2.
Front clip off, ready for some serious surgery.
Air box off, will be going to single cable push/pull control for heater/defrost
465/Dana 20 I bought about 3 years ago for my '75 and never got it installed.
Auto pedals ready to be changed, auto shifter ground off and locked into Park. Also, dash removed.
Hydro pedals in.
Here are the two holes that had to be drilled for the additional braces on the pedal assembly. Firewall already had small divots as guides.
Check out this shifter for the D-20. Odd. Will probably convert to twin stick when it's all said and done. The shifter is so sloppy that you can coax it into front wheel low by wiggling it around enough!
Ready for the mock-up/test fit of the drivetrain.
Freshly overhauled 6.2 with GM3 turbo, hydro bellhousing, and 465/20 all snuggled up together. Don't make fun of me for not painting the lower part of the block!
Front view of the engine. See, the visible parts are pretty.
Up in the air.
And it's on its way in. Still millions of problems with the setup, but it's good to have it finally sitting on the frame rails and ready to tackle the intricacies of the swap.

Target maiden voyage date is July 4

. I just bolted everything together to see how it would fit in the truck. Needed to line up and cut a hole for the shifters, figure out how the exhaust is going to work, see if motor mounts line up, figure out the hydroboost, just test fit a ton of stuff in general. It will be promptly pulled back out, the tranny, frame, and firewall painted, clutch parts assembled, and then it will be ready to go in for good.
). I believe it came out of a '70 Blazer. IIRC, Dana 20s were common on 3 on the tree trucks, but not so common behind sm465s. I didn't realize it was a D20 when I bought it, but after reading about them they don't seem like bad cases. Pretty comparable to a np205.
. Keep up the good work.
Oh wait I put them there
