Have been getting a lot done over the past few weekends. Here's what we accomplished this past weekend (after preparing for several weeks)

My '87 K5: 6" Superlift and 3/4 tons (14sf rear:o) already done. Ready for Phase 2.

Front clip off, ready for some serious surgery.

Air box off, will be going to single cable push/pull control for heater/defrost

465/Dana 20 I bought about 3 years ago for my '75 and never got it installed.

rebuild4.jpg

Auto pedals ready to be changed, auto shifter ground off and locked into Park. Also, dash removed.

rebuild5.jpg

Hydro pedals in.

Here are the two holes that had to be drilled for the additional braces on the pedal assembly. Firewall already had small divots as guides.

Check out this shifter for the D-20. Odd. Will probably convert to twin stick when it's all said and done. The shifter is so sloppy that you can coax it into front wheel low by wiggling it around enough!

rebuild9.jpg

Ready for the mock-up/test fit of the drivetrain.

rebuild10.jpg

Freshly overhauled 6.2 with GM3 turbo, hydro bellhousing, and 465/20 all snuggled up together. Don't make fun of me for not painting the lower part of the block!

Front view of the engine. See, the visible parts are pretty.

rebuild12.jpg

Up in the air.

And it's on its way in. Still millions of problems with the setup, but it's good to have it finally sitting on the frame rails and ready to tackle the intricacies of the swap.

Target maiden voyage date is July 4

what year is your 6.2? looks like you're missing some equipment off the back of it... the vacuum pump in particular.

It's out of a '91 Suburban. I swapped my vacuum pump for a blockoff shaft from K204dr. I don't need vac for anything so I wanted the pump out of the way.

My '85 'J' code in the Jimmy also has no vac pump. It was originally a manual tranny application without AC...therefore no need for vacuum anything and got the vac pump delete plug instead.

hmmmm. i'd like to do that then. i don't know what it's there for... but it's there. i don't have a/c (not operable, most is missing anyway). how much do those delete plugs run?

No idea, mine came stock with it. i'm guessing it has some sort of gear and pump driver hex attached to it.

Is it my imagination or are you missing flywheel, clutch and fork still?

what did that trans and transfer case come in? was the dana 20 stock on it?
so, how are you gonna tell when you get a new dent on that body?! :D :haha:

have u thought about what you are going to do for exhuast? ive got a 6.2 and im going to be swapping a gm8 on it. id assume the exhaust needs would be the same. any insight youve got would be sweet. thanks

:haha: You ain't seen the front clip yet! Looks like a piece of crumpled paper! :thumb: EDIT: Never mind, I forgot I posted a pic of the entire body at the top!

Both :p:. I just bolted everything together to see how it would fit in the truck. Needed to line up and cut a hole for the shifters, figure out how the exhaust is going to work, see if motor mounts line up, figure out the hydroboost, just test fit a ton of stuff in general. It will be promptly pulled back out, the tranny, frame, and firewall painted, clutch parts assembled, and then it will be ready to go in for good. :thumb:

I bought the tranny and case from a CK5 member (it's been so long I forget who it was :doah:). I believe it came out of a '70 Blazer. IIRC, Dana 20s were common on 3 on the tree trucks, but not so common behind sm465s. I didn't realize it was a D20 when I bought it, but after reading about them they don't seem like bad cases. Pretty comparable to a np205.

Well, the passenger side manifold is off the turbo donor truck so you'll definitely need that. The driver's side manifold works just fine. After it's all put together, I'm going to tow it to an exhaust shop and have them bend up tubing to fit and to connect to the turbo. Final exhaust will come out the hood as a stack (weird, I know, but that's the plan!) I've taken tons of pics and will continue to do so, as well as try to do a full writeup on the entire build so hopefully you'll be able to apply some of this to your GM8 setup. :thumb:
