The wires coming out of the wand and running down the inside of the column, what do they control? This is for a wand that has intermittant wipers and it has cruise.

They affect only the cruise control operation. The wiper switch itself is mounted to the bottom of the stalk, and the stalk presses into it. Without those wires there will be no cruise function.

I swapped in a different column is what it was. My k5 never had cruise from the factory so to heck with hooking it up then LOL

turn signal/wiper switch

I'm pretty sure my switch on the column (85 Jimmy) is in need of being replaced. The wiper works on high only. The washer doesn't spray (but the spray itself does work, it wired a switch in so I could pass inspection) and the cruise doesn't work. So I looked on NAPA's site and a new switch is $150. Several online sites seem to sell new ones for $29 or so. Is there any real difference?

I have never bought the cheap ones, I just normally go to the junkyard and pick one up. Just make sure that the ones you are looking at have cruise, that is usually what raises the price on the stalk. The cruise version has the switch and button, so it is more expensive for them to make.

You sure those wires don't control cruise AND wiper function?

Taz don't cut them! if your chrome and lettering is good I have one PM SENT.

No, the wiper switch itself is the part that the stalk presses into. If you look at like LMC for the stalks, you will see that only the stalk with cruise has wires on it, while the wiper only stalk has nothing on it. The stalk presses into the wiper switch, and you have to tear most of the upper part of the column apart to get to the switch.

X2 what he said. Confirmed I have the GM cruise to put on my truck.
