Of course after spending $1000 this past summer upgrading my AC and finally having some relief from the heat, what happens? It's f$ckn 20 degrees in Tennessee this whole month and my heat goes out! My blower works, but there is no heat. Should I assume this a heater core problem? There is no guidance in the Haynes manual.

Guess I'll throw the keys in the woods and put on my beer jacket!

hot engine check both heater hoses at firewall . should both be hot .

if you have a infared temp gun should be around 140* or so . and also if working correctly 15-20* drop on 1 hose over the other.

if this is not the problem then check the cables under the dash at the box and see if there hooked up and if the door lever even moves.

if you find huge massive temp difference in heater hoses its a pluged core.

can try and back flush it out with garden hose .

pinch off both hoses at motor as to not loose coolent . remove them from heater core REAL easy the older heater cores get weak and also hoses tend to bond to them .

back flush it 2-3 times each way and it should come out. if not time for a new one.

Completely thought this was a house heat issue. I was so confused about a Haynes manual for a home furnace

I like that back flush idea. Never thought about that before.

#1 step is to check the coolant level.
#2 make sure the engine is actually warming up, by gauge on dash and by feeling block/hoses (I've heard of Southerners removing the T-stat).
#3 check for flow through core like sweetK30 suggests
#4 check the blend door under the dash

What is a beer jacket? Drinking to stay warm?

I would almost bet money the blend door cable is busted off the door. Past 2 square bodys I had were broken there.
