I have a 350 engine that has been sitting unmoved for 5 yrs. I pulled the starter and dust cover. The flywheel move which s good. How many time should I rotate to get it moving again?

I have the plugs and carb pulled from the engine.

Also I read about a modified distributor that uses a drill to turn the oil pump. Anyone have some details on this?

You can rent an oil pump primer from autozone for free. If the motor turns over, I would set it upright and prime with the valve covers off to make sure everything is up to snuff. It wouldnt hurt to pull the oilpan to inspect, torque and instrall a new oil pump and one piece pan gasket

I turn the motor over by using the front crank pulley bolt and a breaker bar or old torque wrench. As far as the distributor trick, its not trick, the end of the distributor is what spins the oil pump, if you buy a oil pump primer tool, it will drop into the hole where the distributor is at, and slots into the oil pump, with a cordless drill, spin the bit clockwise until oil pressure raises. I continue to do this until the engine has been around 2 complete times. Every 90 degrees on the crank pulley I re-prime the motor.

Why do you re-prime the motor every 90 degrees?

After taking the distributor out and turning the oil pump do I need to reset the engine to TOP dead center? How Do I get the distributor to align with the cylinders?

if you do every 90 degrees you know all you main cap have oil. they make a tool that goes in the #1 spark plug that will stop the piston at top dead center. drop in the distributor pointing to the #1 cylinder. if it doesnt want to line up you can turn the oil pump rod with a long flat screw driver.
