I have a 2006 GMC 2500HD 4WD Duramax pickup and the door bell dinger drives me crazy especially when I am in the hunting woods and trying to be as quiet as is possible when getting in/out of my truck. The door bell/dinger goes off with the key turned on, seat belt not hooked up, door adjar, etc. and is very annoying at those times.

Is there a way to turn it off, remove it, or some way to lower the volume?

Thanks, Dave

give this a shot, done it to a couple of buddy's truck and worked.
Don't have to worry about it in mine because got rid of the factory radio

here is the tech article
Remove the knee bolster underneath the steering wheel. Find the BCM (body control module). There are 3 large connectors going into the BCM. From left to right they are numbered J2, J3 & J4. In J4 locate the wire going to pin connecter A1. The wire is light green. Unhook this wire by pulling the retainer off the back, then pull on the wire while shoving a tiny screwdriver up the whole until it submits and slides out. (Actually the release is on the side closest to the middle of the plug in the whole. Tape the lose wire up and reassemble.

I have no clue if the new trucks are like the older ones but if so just find the buzzer and unplug it.

I gather on the new ones that you can have the dealer reprogram the thing not to do that... donno how, and prolly cost you, but I'd fear trying to dig under the dash of a new truck and find the damn dinger to remove it, forcibly if necessary =))

And "newer" for me means anything after about 1980, just so you know =))

if you go through the "setup menu" for the drivers information center you can program when it does and doesn't go off. I'd pull the wire out of the BCM..... its f****** annoying

4x4high - the dinging noise in question is extremely loud and goes off through the speakers for the audio system, its not quite as simple as pulling a buzzer wire loose

On the 99/00 and ups the door chime goes through the radio..... kinda makes you want to punch a nun after the first 7 or 8 times it goes off (or before you even leave the dealership lot)

If you can get hold of an OBDII computer reader thingy (tech term for it), there is an option in the programming menu to turn off the door dinger.
Probably will have to go to the dealership to get it done or if you know someone who is a tech.

I have been told that removing or cutting the "green" wire will disable the dinger, but it can or does disable other warnings also. Anyone know anything about that? I want to be careful and know exactly what is involved in the alteration.

I'm pretty sure the green wire is the signal from the BCM telling the radio there is a door open or you don't have the seatbelts buckled..... not sure will ask more about it today at work.

If the door bell/seat belt/ignition key dinger feature can be "turned off" with the dealer's computer programmer thingy, that would likely be the better option as nothing would have to be cut or modified and hopefully would not void any waranty.
It would cost a dealer visit though unless you could find someone else that had a programmer. Clipping the green wire would be quicker/cheaper as long as nothing else and waranty would not be effected.

I need to have my computer reset for the 265 tires I put on it right after the purchase.
