Not the usual ones:D

This is on my ford DD, details in my sig. I put a new accelerator cable on due to that starting to stick, but the pedal is still really stiff from the TV cable. I unhook the TV cable and the pedal operates nice and easy but not too easy.

The guys on the ford forum I am also on say its normal. I dont buy that. The problem however is that the TV cable for the ford AOD has now become un-obtainium. Nobody makes one aftermarket for the trucks that I found and mustang ones are $120. Maybe I should put the 4L60E swap a little higher on the priority list.

I was thinking I could pull it off and try to hose it out a little with brake cleaner, then lube it. Not sure what I would lube it with as I have quite the range of temperatures to deal with here in Mn and I dont want it sticking when its cold out. Maybe like a graphite type lube? And it doestn go into the trans case like on a GM transmission. Theres a lever that the cable operates so the entire cable is outside of the transmission itself. I will inspect the lever and whatnot too. Maybe that needs a good cleaning.

What say you guys?

lube it with some cable luber normally used for dirtbike cables
clean it first with the brake or carb cleaner, blow it out with air, then lube it like mad

You do know about the gum problems those year engines had in the throttle body, right?
Not related to the transmission cable of course, but a big cause of sticking throttles.

My 89 250 is all gummed up right now. When I go to start off, its hard to push. Then, it stays idled up until I blip the throttle a couple of times.

From what I can tell, after you turn the engine off, gas and oil fumes move up and collect around the throttle butterflys. It builds up a coating in the housing that needs some carb cleaner or brake cleaner every so often.

It was so bad on my truck in the swamp, I decided to do something about it. But, my can of WD40 was empty, I had no regular cleaner, so I used some Pam type spray vegetable cooking oil.

Bad idea. Not only did it not fix the problem, but my engine ran awful for about two hours afterwards.
I've got some cleaner now, and will fix the problem this weekend.

When I disconnect the TV cable, there is alot less tension on it. Good to know on the TB gumming up though. I might have to look at that.

The cause of the sticking was the throttle cable. It was kinda busted up right at the throttle body, where the hard plastic sleeve is under the spring, and wouldnt stay clipped onto that bracket anymore. I had a hoseclamp holding it level:doah:

I know youre in LA K85, but do you know how that cable lube handes the cold? That might be my best bet.

Don't know for sure that this will fit your truck, but its cheaper than the Mustang one.
Its a Lokar Ford AOD Kickdown Cable.

Here is one place that has it. http://www.amazon.com/Lokar-KD-2AODU-Black-Kickdown-Transmission/dp/B004BSSJAU

But, you might want to E-mail tech support at the company so you can make sure which one works with the throttle body.
