I went to my buddy's place and asked him if he could help me with the tv cable and he disconnected it for a few and reconnected it but now it isnt engaging into the other gears,.. I had to gear down into low gear just to get home,... :dunno:
I need help again,...

Oh Fart. Hope you have not damaged the tranny. It doesn't take long on a 700R4 if the cable is wrong.

Engine off, throttle closed.
Make sure the cable its self is hooked up and to the right place.

Push the button or whatever the release is on the cable housing mount.

Slide the cable housing all the way back towards the firewall.

Use your hand to slowly open the throttle all the way. You should hear the cable housing mount ratcheting as it is pulled away from the firewall.

With the throttle all the way open, the cable should be tight. Don't pull on the cable hard enough to check that you pull another click out of the adjuster.

Cable is set.

That's where he went wrong,..he didn't push the gas pedal all the way to the floor to adjust the tv cable,..we got to talking rigs and looking over his boneyard o cars and it was gettin' late and I just started up the Blazer and headed out and i noticed a smooth 1st gear shift but then I noticed a I wasn't getting any more outta the tranny's other gears,...so thats when I shifted down to find a gear to keep going forward,..uggghhhhh!!!

....if the shift is then also a little to high, lower the cable for about maximum 1 click !

I bought one of tcis aftermarket ones. Doesnt have the button on it. I pulled the slack out of the cable until it had tension from the spring and tightend the nut on my linkage. There is a small slotted piston in the valve body and as the cable pulls on it the piston moves. Basically at no throttle it should be all the way in, and at full throttle be all the way out. I had the pan off when i did mine so i could make sure it was going all the way when my buddy pressed the pedal. Ive put some hard miles on mine at the dunes and the thing works perfectly.

So tells me. How does the adjustment affect the cable itself when the adjustment is only on the housing? The cable is one length that doesnt change so how does moving the cable housing affect where the cable is positioned? Just never made any sense to me.

I had to reset mine recently. The instructions in the repair manual were exactly as fordum said. I did what it said in the manual, and it worked fine (although I didn't hear any ratcheting or clicking). The "button" isn't your standard button, at least on mine. I didn't feel much give.. I just pushed hard on the area in the middle, and I was able to adjust the cable. My shifting was fine after I went through the process.

changes the effective length of the housing.

kind of like moving a piviot point on a teeter totter.

Is the TV cable as big of a deal on a TH350 as a 700R4, as far as screwing up the transmission if not done properly? Just bought a 79 k5, and it's not even hooked to the carb :eek1:

TH350 uses a kickdown cable, completely different animal from a TV, and no, it won't harm the transmission at all, just won't downshift under throttle.
