Twin Stick Questions

Call and talk to James

I called and talked with a man other than Stephen (although I could hear him in the background). I don't know if it was James or not, but the response I got is that they do not necessarily line up side by side in Nuetral and that the linkage is too short to make adjustable.

I was able to find:
http://www.pacificnorthwestbearing.net/p117/CM6-3/8"-RH-MALE-ROD-END/HEIM-JOINT/product_info.html
and
http://www.pacificnorthwestbearing.net/p125/CF6-3/8"-RH-FEMALE-ROD-END/HEIM-JOINT/product_info.html

I'm hoping to be able to cut them down and make it work so the shifter linkage is a straight push/pull and the shifters line up while in Nuetral. If it doesn't work, I'm only out $12.

I haven't put the t-case in the truck yet or gotten the parts. If they get here by tomorrow, I will definitely try them this weekend and let everyone know how they work (or if they don't).

As for the twin stick setup itself, it is AWESOME and very well made. The heim setup it comes with for the linkage is really nice too, I just want to try something different....as I tend to be a little anal (like wanting to have my shifters line up). It's purely for asthetic (spelling?) reasons.

After thinking about it for a while I realized that they stack the male and female hiem and that is as short as they can make that linkage. You might be able to make something shorter that will get the stick lining up closer.

I haven't had a chance to mock it up yet but the parts did come in today. Hopefully I will get a chance to get the tranny/tcase in and see how everythings going to fit on Saturday.

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to check the linkage as I was too busy unbolting the interior. I had to remove the transmission tunnel to get the shifters to fit.

I'm hoping that I got shipped the wrong shifters for my application or that the 85+ trucks and adapters are/were a little different, or that I'm an idiot and doing something wrong on my end (has happened before).

I am going to call ORD on Monday. I am posting pics so that they can see what I am talking about and/or if I did something wrong on my end. Also maybe other members can see and share if they see me doing something wrong or if they had similar issues.

Please see part II on the following link:

Also I found there is a difference with the 85+ shifters but offset doesn't "seem" to be the issue:

I talked to James and it seem like linkage angle is not an issue, which is good.

The issue with the shifters hitting the doghouse is primarily due to the fact that the tranny/tcase combo is out of an 85 and the truck is an 80. Apparently there were 2 or 3 (or more) different style doghouses used throughout the years. I can either cut my doghouse (which is not an option for me), or redesign the shifter handles (rebend them or cut and extend them over). James and ORD have been pretty cool about all this. I have to go and do some checking before I decide how I'm going to proceed.

I think I will have the same problem, my400/205 is out of an 86 going into a 75. So I am watching this.

This is how they delt with the same issue on the Fox chassis.

James stated that I could add on to the doghouse on the passenger's side, but unfortunately my truck has a "nice" interior with a new carpet. To make it look good I would have to cut my doghouse, make a piece to house the shifters and hold the shift boot and plate, then buy a new carpet and cut a hole in it.

If this were a strict competition buggy or a beater I would do it in a heartbeat. The issue is I get alot of compliments on how clean and maintained my rig is for a truck puller and I don't want to change that.....yet :-)

What did ya come up with on this??

I took some measurement, brought the old shifters to a fab shop, and they bent me up two new shifter handles with an offset towards the driver's side. I had them put a larger thread on the end for the shifter knobs as I went with the knobs from JKW offroad
itempic1.php

The only issue I have now is the original knobs were much smaller in diameter and the sticks are too close together for these. Next week after my last pull I am having the fab shop bend the shifter slightly so that the knobs will move past each other. I will post pics once I am done.

The Offroad design kit works flawlessly and is well made. If it wasn't for me putting a new style NP205 where the old style used to be, this probably would not have been an issue.

I used to have issues shifting my case and there was a few times where in low range I would only have front wheel drive and would have to keep shifting the case until it worked. I have been shifting this thing a ton of times over the past few months and it shifting is almost effortless. I put the truck in Nuetral, let my foot off the brakes and shift with ease.
