I twisted one of my sending unit lines while taking it off. ( can be seen here: http://i10.tinypic.com/6fr5unq.jpg ) What is the best way of fixing this? Should I cut it behind the twist, move the connector down the shaft and flare it?

Or can I cut it, hook up a compression/union fitting and a new length of pipe?

Does anyone know if they make pre-flared repair kits for this? I dont have a flare kit and have never flared before.. dont really want to learn on fuel lines if I dont have to.

THANKS

You probably aren't going to be able to do anything without buying an adapter. Those saginaw connections are near impossible to make yourself (I hear the tool is out there though!) and to use the existing flex line with any sort of connection you can make after cutting that line, you'll have to adapt the flex fitting.

It's fairly low pressure at least.

Do you know what this adapter would be called? Im looking all over google and not getting a whole lot.. at least nothing GM specific

I found this, the top one looks promising but Im unsure if that will do it?

Thanks for the reply

I spent between 200-300 dollars getting fuel lines made for me from a hydraulic hose shop with those signaw fittings on them, and you know what??

I went to Canadian Tire afterwards, and found signaw flares and fittings on the end of a blank tube for around 10 bucks. They were about 8 inches long.

It really pissed me off, because if I had those I coulda saved close to $150...

Oh and I twisted one of my tubes, and ended up replacing the whole sender unit. You gotta figure if the lines are that corroded that they twist, then the rest of the lines are going to rot through soon enough.

I didn't want to take the gas tank down again, so I replaced my sender unit. Better to be safe the sorry.

So basically what Im looking for is a saginaw 'fitting' with the blank tube.. then I will take that tube and use a compression fitting to stick it to the other one?

If so, that sounds fairly simple.. though finding the adapters may not be
Thanks guys, I'll look around and hope I can locate something

edit: May have found one, http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=EAR%2D9894DBJERL&N=700+0&autoview=sku

I now realize its not the fitting I need, because I can just reuse the old one. I just need a tube with the special flare?!

I thought about it.. since this is low pressure we are dealing with maybe I will just get rubber fuel hose from the farm/tractor store... run that from the cut off line on the sending unit to the steel fuel line thats in the frame and just bypass the flex hose that goes from the tank to that in frame fuel line. Would there be any safety problems with this? Seems reasonable as long as I watch where its routed.....

Thanks again!
