Is better than any day at work.

Just spent the last two days JYing in Colorado Springs. Went for some patches for my 72' Blazers firewall, a set of 'Burb springs, and maybe a York compressor.

Well, they had a 70 2wd, but the firewall is different for the pieces I needed, and no luck on the York.

Took my daughters boyfriend and his brother with me and that worked out pretty good, even though they arent mechanically inclined. We all lost a lil skin, got sunburned, sand in our shorts, and got PB blaster in our eyes. Didn't lose any body parts this time though...

We found a 85 Suburban and got one spring out, but the driver side was a bear . One bolt wouldn't budge. :hack:half the bolt and the mount until we went through two batteries. Then it became personal. We worked on that one mount for about seven hours total, and finally got it by snapping the bolt.

Got a lil crazy scavaging though.

* Saw an 80 4wd there two days prior and was gonna get the dropped pitman arm and Warn hubs, but by the time I got back someone cut the arm halfway through and took ONE of the hubs... :doah:

Would have liked to go tomorrow though- they have a 2 for 1 sale on all parts for the next couple days, but I don't think my work would be too happy if I called in sick for that, lol.

I need to build a shed...

The last time I went JYing it was to find some hood hinges for the 69. The day I brought it home the passenger side decided it was time to snap. Driving around while at work, I stop in at a pick and pull that I have not looked in yet, their they were and there I was in a white shirt and no tools. Finished the day up at work, changed clothes, grabbed some tools and off I went. It would have been a good picture of my face when I turned the corner and somebody had already sunk their teeth in the truck. No hood hinges. I went home like a beaten dog.
Now I was on a mission. A couple more JY and I found them, tools in hand, I went after them. Got them home and realized how hard it would be to clean these for paint prep. So off I went to go find a media blaster. Found a cheapy at Harbor Freight. The thing worked fairly well for the $$$.
I was so proud of my cleaned and freshly painted hinges, while the were drying I figured it was time for a beer.
Next day I put these beauties in and found out that both of them were sprung. The hood sits up about an 1" by the cowl.:doah:
Moral of the story is I got to play in some JY's, buy a tool, escape to the garage for some time and drink a beer. It was all worth it! BTW I'm still looking for some good hinges.:D

I can get you some hinges no problem, we have about 5 c10's here. I got my hood off one of them but i left the hinges on the truck. Let me know, i can go pull them for you and send em out.

NC off all places has some crazy insurance laws for junkyards and now alot of them will not allow people to randomly roam thier junkyards unless they know specific parts and pick-n-pulls are far and few between.

So, is JYing a Norcal term?? Took me a while to figure out what it was. But, I haven't ever heard that one before

Just an abbreviation for typing- when speaking I would say something like "Well, I'm heading out to go junkyarding- wanna go?"

Place I go to in Colorado Springs charges $2.00 for insurance but it's a pick-a-part. They have a sister company in Pueblo also, but the yard is much smaller. I like the fact that they have set prices also. An HEI distributor goes for $23.00 now, but used to be $12.50. All the other yards wanted $75.00 plus.

Oh, and thx NorCal- now I need hinges also... think ya jinxed me :wink1:

RudyO, sorry about that, I had no intentions of throwing out the jinx in any direction. I just thought that it was a good "JY" story. I know I'm not the only guy that has went through that scenario.

Well, the hood was already off the 70' at the yard. I didnt even think to check the bed and surrounding trucks for the hinges. And yes, it was a good story. So I'm not the only one that has that type of luck, lol.

We have a truck JY a couple miles from where I live, so will pry check there. Run by a couple of brothers- one seems to always try to get "new part" prices. I always got the feeling he skims the extra from his family... Usually only go there as a last resort.

So the hinges only interchange from 67-72? Checked my Hollanders and thats what I'm coming up with.
