First, I am swapping my D44 to another D44 that will have the 8 lug and correct 4:10 gears. Where or can I get just the cone washers and nuts for the steering arm I'm swapping or do I have to buy the studs with them too as a kit? If so, where could I get the cones and nuts only?

Next Question and totally different topic:
If I/you were to purchace a DD/towrig and I wanted to buy something 10-15 years old which diesel truck would I be best with? Mid to late '90's Ford with the 7.3 power stroke or the same era Dodge with the cummings. Two or four wheel drive doesn't really matter but what would be better and why? Just the basic whys as far as quality of truck and diesel engine goes. Sorry, but would rather stay away from the GM's unless there is compelling reason to look at them. Thanks fellas.

I would have separated these questions into 2 different threads.

Search steering arm and you will find the size of the nuts. Those special type of nuts are available at Napa, about 1.50 ea.

They are 9/16-18.

They shoudl know what you are talking about, i forget what that type of pinch style lock nut is called.

No idea on the cones.

Yeah, I coulda/shoulda/woulda searched but didn't think there would be much on just where to purchase the cones and nuts only without having to buy a complete hardware kit as I have seen on several sites. Suppose I coulda just called WFO or NWF or whoever. :doah:

Is it OK to reuse the studs, nuts and cones from the existing arm? No I didn't search either.;)

Hoby,

If you don't gouge the crap out of the old cones, you can reuse them. The nuts are fairly standard pinch lock nuts, and I know I've ordered some from ORD in the past, but they came with studs too.

Specialty fastener stores like Fastenal will have them if they will break open packages. Mine were $0.62 each. My cones were reusable so I couldnt tell you if they are available seperately.
