I had a no spark. Coil cover was incredibly hot. Pulled it and it was the original, date stamped and all. Put my new spare (which was a Borg Warner) and put it in. The truck did not start, and when I was under the hood the new coil smoked. I nstalled a new ground strap and the ground wire. I will start tracing the ground in the distributor and check to make sure its getting 12V. Am I missing something here? The distributor is a year old reman from Autozone(I know I know, but I was in a bind).

Anybody got any ideas? TIA

Thru my limited google skills, I could not find any bad ICM's taking coils with them. They seem to experience dying when hot all the way to DOA, which I've dealt with.

All right chock one up to sloppy workmanship. Leave it to an electrician to tape his temporary tach harness together, shorting the tach wire to ground!!

BTW A short on the -side of the coil shorts the coil out, causing a capacitor like rupture.
