Are the U bolts on the 1/2 ton (10 bolt) supposed to be 9/16" or 5/8" diameter?

The ones I have on there now are 5/8" but the leaf spring expert told me it's supposed to be 9/16".

I did have a hard time getting them installed when I put them on. He assured me the 9/16" will be fine.

What say the brotherhood?

Drill the holes in the backing plate to 5/8". Install the 5/8" U bolts (grade 8 right..... :deal:) torque to 125-130# and run it. Don't forget to re-torque after 50 miles/500 miles/ and every trip.

I believe 9/16" is stock, but 5/8" is MUCH BETTER. Remember most of us are harder on parts than the general originally planned. :waytogo:

5/8 is the upgrade size a lot of people swap to for more clamping force .

if need be tweek the holes to let them go in and be good to go .

I already came home with the 9/16" ones. When I noticed they are different I went back to the guy and he wouldn't exchange them because he custom makes each set.

He said he would give me a deal on the 5/8" ones for $40 cash but assured me that the 9/16" are the correct ones.

If the 9/16" will work I'll just run 'em until I get the 14 bolt.

Then I'll go BEEF.

Thanks bruthas.

you can always go up. but i would never go down for fastners . :thumb:

Good point. I'll pay the extra $40 for the 5/8's. That way I won't have to worry about it when I'm out in the middle of the desert.

Thanks.

There is nothing wrong with the 9/16" u-bolts. I buy prebent u-bolts from the parts store for $8 a piece.

I went with the 5/8" because that's what I took off.

Thanks for the input.
