Got a question on the driveshaft.. I have a 2 inch lift on 87 with all original parts. I noticed my U joint was leaking, since I have been working on gettting my trucking running again. A buddy said that it looks like my drive shaft might need to be lengthin, which could be causing the the leak around the U joint. Since the shaft the now has a steepetr angle and does not go in as far. Included is the pic... ANY IDEAS. BTW notice all the spun oil...

That looks like oil is leaking down the splines of the driveshaft/t-case which would indicate that the splines on one or the other is worn and causing it to leak.

Two inches doesn't cause too much trouble on the shaft itself , you get at least an inch of lift taking the top off a K5 :thumb:

And I think you just need a rear seal on that transfercase , but these rigs are sometimes KNOWN to sling ATF out of np208's even when everything is in good shape and new .

I have seen the yoke itself leak where it is capped at the end of the splines. Mine was doing this until I removed it and welded around the cap.

that to me looks like atf fluid. I would say it is leaking somewhere out the back of the spline shaft. If it was me, i would replace the ujoint also, it looks worn.

Mine did that with 2.5" of lift and it's doing it now with the new CV shaft. It's not dripping, just keeping it damp. I think some of mine also is some of the grease out of the ball socket in the CV that had a ton of grease shot in it by the builder. New u joints are good insurance anyways. Go ahead and replace it and keep an eye on your fluid levels. Every now and then, soak the underside of your truck with degreaser (purple stuff, simple green, etc) and go by the car wash and knock it off. You wouldn't believe how much dirt and grime that can collect on a greasy underbody and skid plate. Not to mention it'll make it a lot more pleasant to work under it. :D
