What can I do about the caps turning in the driveshaft? I can see where the caps spin in the driveshaft. I read something the other day but cant find it.

Maybe the yoke is egged out a little bit , allowing the caps to turn . The clips are probably the only thing keeping them in there .
It may cost you , but a new yoke , or at least a serviceable used one ( whole shaft ) would be needed .
Use that one as a get home spare , if you tack weld the caps in place .

the u-joint could be locked up/worn out. it'll just keep wearing the yoke out.

I just installed the joints maybe 500 miles on them. They went on like any other u joint. It is a 1310-1350 conversion joint.
The yoke in the driveshaft is worn out. You will have to replace it.
