[FONT=&quot]Hello!

I was driving my 1977 K5 Blazer (350, 4x4, Automatic Transmission) today -- I pulled out of a parking lot, began slowly accelerating and at about 15 mph there was a very loud sound and I felt a thud under the car.

I pushed it to the side of the road and sure enough, the front of my driveshaft had done a cannonball on to the pavement. I tied the front of the drive shaft up out of the way with some zipties and had it towed home.

The damage does not look as bad as I feared. I really hope my transmission is fine, and there is not much collateral damage.

If anyone would please tell me what all looks like it ought to be replaced I would be EXTREMELY appreciative! Looks like I definitely need a new Universal Joint and Drive shaft (or possibly the flange at the front of the drive shaft if that is a separate piece).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR INSIGHT!!

New U-joint, new end yoke for the driveshaft and have the shaft checked for trueness. When it dropped it may have bent...

Thanks tRusty!

Where is a good place to order the new U-Joint and End Yoke?

Are they parts I should consider trying to pull at a junkyard?

Trust me, you almost certainly don't have any major damage there.
To the guys who hang out here, that is the equivalent of changing a wiper blade.
Heck, for some of them its the equivalent of gassing up their truck......
Just something you need to do every so often.

The U-joints are NOT junkyard items unless you are just trying to limp home.
They need to be new.
Also, replace the joints on both ends of the shaft unless you had the other end done recently.

The shaft-end yoke is a junkyard part if you can find one.
Odds are you might not.
Just hang on a little while, and folks will chime in with the best places to get one and where to get the joints.

But, I would not be too concerned about other damage.

Thank you very much for all of the input so far. Looks like U-joints are all over the internet for reasonable prices... I'll keep looking for a drive shaft yoke that'll fit.

Does anyone know a good place to buy these online? I hate asking to be spoon-fed, but any applicable part numbers would be much appreciated as well.

How do you remove the shaft yolk from the drive shaft? I have a Haynes manual for the truck but don't see specifics regarding the shaft.

THANK YOU!

Before you go ahead and just pull that off make a note of how it is oriented compared to the end that is welded on. Yokes and U-joints are phased for vibration reasons. The new yoke will slide on, you just want to be sure it's in the same orientation.

U-joints you can find at any major auto parts chain.

I would look for a driveline shop in your area though. They will have all the parts, and can give the shaft a quick look to make sure the rest is still OK. It doesn't take much of a bend to give you problems down the road.

I will check in with that shop and look locally for front and rear u joints and a drive shaft yolk... A good friend of mine with a lot more experience (particularly on chevy trucks) has offered to lend a hand.
