I didn't think i paid that much for the otc

Looked it up 7249, $150

Works with 1/2 ton stuff

Had to buy 1 adapter to press 1350 joints

I have the OTC press and it is pricey but worth every penny. Don’t think I would spend that kind of coin and leave it in a vehicle for some crackhead to steal. I originally bought the harbor freight press and will buy another to throw in my rig. The harbor freight one is definitely not built as strong as the OTC but worked on most things. I ended up bending the snot out of the harbor freight press while doing the godforsaken ball joints on my Duramax. But would be my recommendation for a dedicated ball joint press to keep in a vehicle.

Yeah the basic OTC will do almost all control arm BJ's and most bushings, some mono beam axles. I was able to use on d44, had fudge alittle, to make it work. OTC add on for 4x4 is another 150ish.
HF has basic for @50 and the complete kit with 4x4 just under 100, 89 iirc

Edit I haven't priced the OTC in 15 years I could be full of it

What about a vice on a mount that goes in the hitch? Seems like this would be more versatile with respect to trail repairs.

Sounds like he wants it for the trail and anyone trying to steal out there probably won’t live to profit from it :D

I bought mine for balljoints
U joints is added bonus

It's kinda big for trail duty

HF ones are hit or miss,my friend has bought a few there and one bent ,but they replaced it for free...
I may buy one of these just to use on u-joints ,they are also handy for getting the leaf spring bolts out of the bushings, once the bolt is pushed free a bit they'll come out of the sleeves most of the time..

I have a crude home made ball joint press I've used for other purposes ,it consists of two pieces of 5/16" thick 2" square tubing with 2 threaded rods & nuts holding them apart, one tube on top,one on the bottom, rods are 3/4" diameter about 18" long and I use a bottle jack to do the pressing...

I later drilled a 1" hole in the center of one square tubes and welded in a 3/4" nut so another hunk of 3/4" threaded rod can be used to do the pressing ,I welded a nut on the end of it and use it with the air impact..it works great, but is too big and cumbersome to use on many things unfortunately..I can clamp the bottom tube in a vise and use it as a mini bench press on bearings ,etc..

Yeah mine has over 100 uses. I joints ball joints, spring eyes, control arm bushings. I even used one or twice to press the front wheel drive roller bearing out and back on a couple knuckles.
Must have been a bad batch. Or the Chinese party members bribe was overly large, and they had to skimp on materials

I carry a hammer on the trail and I have sockets to assist. I figure whatever U joint repair I make on the trail is temporary and I have a press at home to fix it “right”.
