u joints gone bad ?

Just looked at my ride again and I wish I could post a pic (pay up sucker). It looks like someone tried to weld some kinda spot weld on the sides where the straps bolt on the caps of the ujoints.

I got the 203 is that good or bad.

Back to the ujoints ,since there is different sizes ,would'nt it be obvious if they didnt fit or are they that close in size where I couldve put the wrong ones in?

1480 is also the same size as a D60 axle joint.

Takem apart. $20 says you have a needle bearing in the bottom of one of the caps.
He said he got the caps on and there was slack in the joint. He also said that with the straps tight the cap is not held in position. In that link there are 2 joints that have the same cross size but one has a smaller cap than the other by a small amount. Are the caps tight in the shaft yoke?

The Saginaw 44 (S44) joint is also known as the GM 3RL.
This u-joint uses 'inside' locks.

The 447 is a 1350/S44 adaptor joint, NOT a 1350/1330.

73-87 trucks never came with a 1330, it's an S44.

1330/1350 joint is Neapco PN 2-3050.

1310/1350 joint is Neapco PN 3-3140.

S44/1350 joint is Neapco PN 2-1153.

1480 is also the same size as a D60 axle joint.

The S44 joint is in between the 1310 and 1350 cap size but I believe it is the same width as a 1310 joint. The specs are posted later in Kidjethro's thread.

:doah::D

I would suggest calling Jess and High Angle Driveline. He should be able to give you the part number for the joints you should need. He is a lot more reliable that a highschool parts counter kid.

So I checked out the chart and it looks like there only one size for my half ton ,am i right or not .If thats the case I couldnt have got the wrong size right or wrong?

No I have heard of some half ton set ups with 1350 joints in the driveline.

Not sure of which ones though. S44s are also 1/2 ton joints which are a different size all together.

Do you have the old joints? You can take measurements of the caps and crosses and then compare to the chart to see what you have.
