U-joints Q's

Re: U-joints Q\'s

spl55-4x is/was the spicer life greasable number
spl = spicer life IIRC

the only strength you are losing is the drilling for the nipple itself
ever see one tear apart in that location?

I don't use greasable joints so I can't comment.

Re: U-joints Q\'s

yea i had my last rear U-joint, 348 from Napa turn the needle bearings into a paste of metal grindings and grease, it made me mad but i went out and bought another from NAPA suprizeingly the box was marked grease before instaling, but it was a non greaseable joint? fit and works fine, and is standing up to abuse im tossing at it, but when this one blows im saying [darn] it and am gunna use my other driveshaft with 2 new joints provided by TIM84.

what kind of grease is everyone useing anyway, im useing a red grease that i get from walmart, i was useing a grease that had moly in it, but now im on to red grease and it seems to hold up better, so what is everyone useing? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: U-joints Q\'s

The 348 u-joint is a conversion u-joint for a 1/2 ton to 14 bolt, correct?

Re: U-joints Q\'s

Yes, 348 is a conversion from 1310 to 1350. If your half ton driveshaft currently has outside lock rings, it will adapt you to a 14 bolt.

Re: U-joints Q\'s

strange i used my 348 to convert my 10 bolt driveshaft to accept my rear 12 bolt /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Re: U-joints Q\'s

That's because the stock driveshaft in your truck, since it is a stock 4 speed truck, has 1350 joints. Your 12 bolt has a 1310 yoke.

According to my catalog, 4 speed trucks like yours are supposed to have an all 1350 rear shaft from the factory. The 12 bolt probably came from a truck with an automatic, and that's why you needed to adapt to a smaller joint.

Re: U-joints Q\'s

Thanks, now I know that I bought the right u-joints. /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
