Ugly truckling build

DIY4X 6 degree wedges did the trick, no more driveline vibrations! Also finally got the stainless lines to seal, no more leaks!

Just a couple more tweaks before Dunefest. I want to remount my seats to the cage, and get my carpet reinstalled.

Lookin good!
Stainless lines are definitely a pain. Have to tighten like crazy to get them to seal.

So the shims didn’t do the trick like I’d hoped.

Turns out my driveshaft has some issues. I believe one of the yokes is too wide, and the cross is moving in it. The slip side is also a bit further out than I want. It’s going out to be lengthened and a yoke replaced tomorrow. I also ordered a new bushing for the output of the TC, there’s a bit of play there. Hopefully that fixes my issues!

20 days to Dunefest!

Been a couple weeks, so, here's an update!

On the interior, I installed my seats, carpet, and padding. I also fixed my radio, installed a new antenna, and figured out a speaker box mount.

I also had a new driveshaft built using my existing slip yoke, lengthened ~1.5". It fixed 90% of the vibration problem, but I'm still getting some chattering / vibes from the driveline on decel. Jesse had a spare NP241 mainshaft left over from his SYE conversion, so I installed that hoping it was my splines that were worn. It didn't help at all, so it's looking like my problem is in the slip yoke it's self. Price for a new slip yoke was ~$100 installed and balanced, that was more then I wanted to spend, so I decided to go another route. I'm sick of messing with driveshafts and half-fixes.

I called up Tom Woods, and ordered their NP241 SYE Kit, and a(nother) new driveshaft. This time a 1310 CV shaft made to order based on my measurements with all new parts. To go with the CV shaft, I flipped my 6 degree axle shims around, and my pinion angle seems just about perfectly in line with where the CV will land. at the SYE.

Rush order, 2-day shipping. Should be here Thursday afternoon. Only cost ~9x what the slip yoke would have.

3 Days to Dunefest!

Overall I'm 110% satisfied with the SYE decision! ZERO vibrations from 0-85, perfect fit on the driveshaft, and only a couple days turnaround from the time I decided I needed an SYE, and the time I was on the road with it. Tom Woods also came through huge with a last second donation to the Dunefest raffle!

Overall I'm really happy with the way the truck performed. I still need some better shocks, but the new springs work great, and the truck rides down the road well!

Any updates? Bumping this because there is so much want, your build is awesome. What did you end up with in terms of lift? 2-3”?

Thanks man!!

Sorry for the lack of updates, it’s been a crazy year! No major updates to the truck. I decided it was way too nice to subject to another Michigan winter, so I decided to pickup a stock, reliable Toyota winter beater.

That didn’t last too long...

The Blazer always had problems with wheel balance and vibrations. I had to use some spacers to make up for the 2wd offset Slot Mags I was running.

I got a killer deal on some ProComp 15x10’s, and decided to swap them out.

With a toddler running around, it’s been a fun summer. The first real truck thing we did was take an ice cream run with Jesse and family.

Then came Dunefest! We made it a family adventure / camping trip.

First stop was Perrin brewing.

Then setup camp, my new pop up camper happens to match the Blazer really well!

Robbie had a blast in the dunes! He was ~17 Months at the time, and loved every second of it!

The dunes trip converted him from a “well adjusted” toddler, to a certified gear head! Everything is now “dadas truck” and driving / making vroooom noises is his life. We took him out to Roadkill Nights to encourage this behavior.

Pointing out dads lack of proper triangulation.

Still slowly working on the truck, but I’ve enjoyed 5,000 miles of trouble free driving since completing the frame-off work! The LS is still sitting on the stand, untouched. The truck works too well with the stock engine at the moment to mess with it.
