figured i`d change the diff fluid in the front today, seeing as i neve did it after that trip, and man was it nasty, looked like chocolate pudding, anyways the fluid wasn`t fully draining so i stuck my hand in there to pull it out and i got a nice little shaving, maybe like 1/8th in, then another one, then i went back to back to push the fluid up and BINGO!!!...nice chunk of metal, looked to be a little smaller than a dime, and looks like it might`ve came from the 4 little gears(spiders?)....so....what now???....i got a front axle out in the yard, can i just swap in the spiders?????what kinda project will that be?

Just buy a lock-rite, replaces the spider gears:D

Pull the shafts out, take the carrier out, put new spiders, or lock-rite in and reinstall.

I changed my front fluid one day i thought my front tire was locking up, ended up being the tranny, but when i drained the diff, it was CHUNKY chocolate milk. nastyness.

Oh, and what is "that" trip you talks about?

Was it this bad....

That is what my D60 looked like (maybe not that bad, but close) when the inner seals decided to retire...

it was no wears near that bad, so that means all the brakes and balljoints etc have to come off to put in the spiders?

You have to take the hubs off, like you're going to repack the bearings, then take the spindles off, but not the knuckle, the shaft will come throught the knuckle.
Like said above, go ahead and change the axle ujoints while you have the axles out and repack your hub bearings.
