Shaker is actually one of the good guys on POR. I frequently see him giving good advice, being courteous to others, and offering free help.
I don't think he meant to insult you with the way he responded to you. Because the site is mostly about rock crawling, from that perspective it really is the way to go.
High Steering in my opinion is definitely a lot better than having the tie rod in the stock location. Although its a little higher up than the axle tubes, it still is very vulnerable to damage being the the first thing the rig hits with the right rock. I've bent mine before and landed on it plenty of times. Would not have happened with High Steer.
On the other side of the coin I'm sure that converting to high steer seems kind of excessive to those who don't regularly encounter boulders/rocks each time they wheel. We all have different terrain we prefer and high steer is definitely something that is most beneficial to those who like the rocks.
