sorry no pic but use your imaginations. 77 chevy cc dually fully restored with a 8.2L detroit diesel stuffed in between the frame rails with a 7 speed transmission bolted on the back......345hp at 660 torque. oh and the reason its the ultimate tow vehicle, has all that power seats 5 and get this, it gets 35 miles per gallon on the highway.:eek1: no joke guy here in keensburg has one and another guy i know is building one with the same motor and tranny. it looks factory inside and out. the whole dash looks like its out of an 18 wheeler but he made it wrap around like the H1 hummer dashes so he could fit all his gauges

Right.......Pics or it didnt happen. LoL...would be wicked to see though. not so much the MPG, but the interior and so forth.

I'm not a big fan of the old fuel-pincher detroits, but it'd be interesting to see non-the-less. NEED TO SEE PICS, BTW.

Impossible to get 35mpgs out of a CC dually. Its going to take a certain amount of diesel to push that vehicle's weight at high speed .

A Cummins 6BT could only manage very low 20's at best pushing the weight and mass of a CC dually, I'd imagine a 4BT wouldn't do much better, if any, because it would take the same amount of fuel going through the 4BT to produce enough HP to keep the vehicle moving as it would a larger 6BT that would just simply divide the HP load among an extra 2 cylinders.

A big dirty bastage like an 8 litre Detroit 2 stroke isn't going to majically break a simple law of Load+required fuel=work done.

I could see if you were claiming 25mpg, he could be giving that Detroit a little propane to increase efficiency, but no way 35mpg's with today's engine choices that run strait diesel or gasoline.

the best I've read of a 6bt is 22-23 really driving like a girl and thats without the rolling resistance of dually. I know guys can get 26-28 out of a 4bt with good power and the right mods. Thats in a vehicle to match the motor obviously though. Your talking a standard cab short or long bed, not a monster CC.

i will get the pics as soon as i can of the one they guys buddy is building but the complete one is gonna be hard to find again. now the mpg is his claiming not mine. he says (while showing me paperwork which still dont mean a thing) that when building the motor and so forth with the right gearing and the 7 speed transmission, that at 65 mph he is running around 1600rpm and thats how he gets the milage. also it is turbo powered. i shouldnt have posted this without pics yall will be jumping all over me till i get them:doah:

JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP WHERES THE PICS JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP :D

Idk 1600 rpm's sounds high to be cruising at in a diesel no? Is the trans double over drive? Whats his tire/gearing/find gear?

If you are talking about an old 2 stroke detriot, there is no way he can be getting 35mpg. Reguardless of what vehicle it is in. The 2 stroke diesel are less fuel efficient than 4 stroke engines. Simply not going to be able to do 35mpg.

he is running 37's with the lowest possible gearing you can run in a dodge dana 70 (3.23's??? maybe 3.53's) i cant remember what gears he said. and i dont know if the trans is or not.

It's not the truck you're talking about, but at least there's a pic in this thread now of a sweet tow rig! (I took this spy pic ~3 years ago)

There was an article in a issue of diesel power mag. several months ago about a 97 dodge dually that got over 30 mpg with a few mods. and a light foot.
