First off, I wish I would have found this site sooner. I have been a K5 fan since I was a kid, and I'm currently driving my third one. I just got it a month or so ago, and couldn't be happier. Props to all who have contributed, and I hope to do my share.

So I went wheeling the other day, may have gotten a little overzealous with the gas pedal. I still blame that rock though, It came right at me!!!
Now my steering wheel is upside down:eek:

So I looked around, nothing looks bent, my drag link didn't skip threads, no funny noises, and she still drives straight. I read somewhere that the gears in the steering box could skip, which I'm assuming isn't good. Is there anything else I can look for?

You may have a loose u-bolt and snapped a center pin and the axle moved on the leaf spring.

Thanks for the quick reply! I checked u-bolts, springs, all that. Nothing looks out of place/broken. runs smooth down the highway, just with an upside down steering wheel! I was watching a you-tube video about a guy trying to straighten his wheel (when I bought the truck it was off 1/4 turn, they all are lol) and he was mentioning the connection of the steering shaft to the steering box. but before I started messing with it I was just hoping someone else on here had this issue.

You could have damaged the frame where the steering box bolts on (bent or cracked).
Your steering arm could have shifted slightly (possibly cracking or sheering off a stud).
You could have bent your front axle housing.
You could have twisted the sector shaft in your steering box.

I've done all of those and more

Something bent or moved or stripped
I believe I would take a closer look before I concluded that nothing bad happened..........BEFORE something bad does happen.

THIS...

Your steering didn't just "magically" slip out of adjustment. Something shifted or broke.... Don't feel bad, it happens to lots of guys on their first real 4-wheeling attempt in an unsorted truck. Happened to me...

Look carefully for any new "shiny" areas where rust or dirt has been wiped away on the leaf springs or pads or steering box area. The clues are in there somewhere.

If you ignore it, the problem will get worse and will get easier to find..... But probably not in a good way! :doah:
