I was originally going to raptor line the belly of the beast. However, I was thinking the painfully pain in the ars it will be. Between cleaning it first then rolling on the raptor liner. I don't have a lift, so it makes it challenging to do on a creeper. I got a quote of $250 and $350 (better product) to do the underneath with an oil-based application. They get way deep into areas I wouldn't be able to get at with a roller or brush.

Has anyone used an oil-based application or any of the following types listed below and what are your thoughts on them?

TypeDescriptionBest ForMaintenance
RubberizedStrong, flexible, and helps reduce road noise.Personal vehicles, daily driversLow – lasts long, less upkeep
Oil-BasedCreeps into seams and works on light rust. Reapply yearly for best results.Older vehicles, DIY usersNeeds yearly recoat
Wax/Paraffin-BasedEasy to apply and budget-friendly, but less durable.Budget-conscious drivers, DIYersHigh – reapply often
Asphalt-BasedHeavy-duty coating, very durable, used in harsh environments.Trucks, commercial or off-road useLow – long-lasting

I used PB Blaster Surface Shield a few years ago, I can still see it on the frame and most everywhere I applied it except on the inner wheel wells. If you pull the inside panels it pretty easy to get the inside of the quarters and doors.

I try to keep it out of the salt and I store it inside, but I feel compelled to head to the mountains when the snow is deep and the deer are in season.

Used motor oil probably does just as well as most. It worked for years before a lot of the products on the market today.

Use the oil based stuff if you are in the salt, rubberized traps moisture and rusts faster. We used that asphalt based stuff when I worked at PennDOT. Its a mess and doesn't hold up all that well, plus it doesn't creep into any place.

Doesn't Mass salt their roads in the winter? If so, i'd be looking toward an oil product and i'd try to find something that advertises neutralizing salts. I don't know if it exists for cars, but they make special gun oils to neutralize the corrosive salts in some surplus ammunition. That's what i'm thinking of. So I know some kind of additive exists to neutralize it, but it's not just the oil itself doing the job.

Yup Mass salts the roads...our winters aren't like they used to be, so they don't salt as much. I believe the higher priced product offered has some extra additives which help deal with salt, I will inquire when I bring it in October 1st to get coated.
