Though I have only owned it for almost 2 years I will no longer be able to keep my K5. I have to sell my Jimmy because it is no longer economically viable for me to continue to own it. It would cost approximately 4-6,000 dollars to get my K5 to my new location and I am in no position to have such an expense. I have grown to love and hate these vehicles and have learned a great deal but is not for those who are short of time or money. This is a great community and hope to own another k5 in the future. Finally, I would like your opinion, what should I buy as a daily driver with the maximum cost of $7,000 (money from sale) in my location of Syracuse, NY?

were you are looking in Syracuse ny that's MAJOR rust belt land . so check every thing over real good .

better yet drive to lower pa or in to Maryland for tons less rust problems.

fyi Syracuse is only 1.5 hr north of me.

You're moving from Hawaii to Syracuse? Life's over get a Prius

Who Quoted you $4-6K to Transport from HI to NY? I just shipped my 96 K1500 to Hilo for $1800 from SLC. If you want to try the company I used let me know and I'll send the info

It would only be 2,000 including port fees and such to get it to long beach CA, but I need at least new tires and some other odds and ends that would total up to about 3,000, then finally I would need to drive across country an that would be 1,500 in gas and other expenses. I have calculated it all out and even if I sell my axles i was going to swap it would leave me with paying for everything except the gas. I was looking at other ports to ship it to, but my search turned up nothing.

Yeah most of the cars, even new ones, have rust up here. I was thinking about looking further south for a vehicle. I was thinking possibly a jeep from the 80's or a Subaru, the problem is that Im going to sell my truck now, but I will buy my car in about 2 years. Also its nice to not be the only member for 2,500 miles, but now I probably wont have a K5.

What are your vehicle requirements? Do you need a full size? I think a quad cab p-up is the most versatile vehicle to own. I'd look for a 4 door S10 or Dakota p-up. Little better mileage than full size, still have practical beds and seating, and you can find a clean one in your price range.

My requirements are that it be reliable, plentiful parts, have at least 2 seats, and have heat. I was thinking a jeep with a 4.0, a Subaru, even a OBD 2500. I would like 4wheel drive or awd, a manual, and I don't need a bed, but would like some cargo space so no corvettes. Finally, if Im going to drive a truck its not going to be one I can see over(Im 6,4).

If you don't need a bed,go sport utility of some sort, generally cheaper than the pickup counterparts

the 4 letters JEEP up here = MEGA BUCKS and lots of the older stuff is total rot box crap that still gets 2-4 k price tag and people pay it .

I am most likely not going to purchase a vehicle in Syracuse but rather in one of the lower states to reduce the rust potential.

I've noticed the older Suburbans and Tahoes up here seem to not rot away as quickly or as bad as pickups do,and most are in better condition--more OF them too,so their prices run much lower than a truck...
Pickups here go for big bucks, even a 20 year old rusty one can fetch 1500 bucks easily provided its frame is still roadworthy..it is tough finding a truck up here in rust free shape for a good price--the few you do see usually have 300K on them or need a transmission, engine,or rear end..
