Is the 455 Unitized Power Package a good idea for a RV drive train or is it an experiment that failed?

Like the GMC motorhome or the early Revcons? I know when the Toronado went out of production, Revcon switched to a 454, TH400 and transfer case with no rear driveline. This let them keep the front wheel drive.

Revcon's used those & the Cadillac 500/ transverse t-400 both. They have there problems. There was a guy locally that built heavy duty units with some type of beefy half shafts. He bought the Eldarodo that I pulled my 500 from for the transmission axle core.

Yeah, the GMC motorhome. They were great - low floors and low center of gravity, good ride and >10MPG. Really the only vehicle ever designed from scratch as a motorhome. The motor/drivetrain was almost straight out of the Toronado.

So what is your question? Whether or not to buy one?

There is a splace here in town that works on nothing but front wheel drive motorhomes and I used to build engine for them. AFAIK that transaxle is fairly stout and i've never heard of any issues with them. They can be rebuilt easily though if they do have any issues.

I owned a Revcon and my folks owned a GMC, both had the setup and I used mine to trudge around the southern Colorado mountains.

I loved mine and it had amazing power.
