i need a heater...and the guy who owned my k5 befor me cut out the fire wall where the heater would mount. anybody know of any unversal heaters that would heat a cab of a k5???

I took out my AC box and welded in a plate, before I had it measured so I found another similar truck measured it and cut a couple od 1 inch holes in the plate very close to where it would have been before, thing worked great.

Are those designed to be mounted where the stock heater core goes or do they expect you to run coolant lines all the way into the cab?

Yep thats what I`m running, as well as ryoken, and possibly a few others. Super easy install, and well worth it. Thing blows some serious air!

They`re designed to be put where ever you want it, which in-turn, comes running coolant lines in the cab.

you do know that the factory heater core is in the cab and coolant runs through it. :D

Yeah but its tucked up against the firewall under the dash... now that I think about it I guess its no biggie but I just didn't like the idea of having lines where they were exposed...
Mine are capped off anyways so no heat for me :)

If proper grommeting is done, or better yet, bulkhead fittings are used, it's not an issue... Well worth the risk of "more" heater hose inside the cab... heck, there are lots of foriegn cars that run similar from the factory..

"exposed" under a dash is far less likely to fail than whats running out in the harsh environment of under the hood...

I'd never go back to stock heat...

Ryoken,
Do you have a pic of how your heater is setup? I'm considering getting one for the back of my burb, but would like to see your setup. Thanks.
