unknown front axle

Hi,

I have a 1982 chevy k20 with and unknown front axle.. its got 10 bolt cover (its not a corporate 10 bolt has onscure front cover!) and its not a dana 44 or dana 60... On the cast iron web off the center section is says "GM 5" and on the other side of the pumkin is (what i can make out) "G" or "6" 115 .. anyone have any clue as to what it is? i think i got the shaft when i bought it...


if anyone can help that would be great

what makes you think its not a 10 bolt GM? the dana 44 "wanna be" as i like to call it...........

what is an onscure front cover? If its not a 10 bolt its a d 44 only two axles that came in these trucks. I have heard of guys doing 12 bolt front ends but thats a custom peice so it will either be really nice or really bad. Also theres no point to doing it.

Its not very good ill try to get a new photo .. But that cover is not round its more of an obscure round, not like a 10 bolt or dana 44 (has "GM 5" behind on the right lower housing web
 
A 10 bolt has a perfectly round cover ana 44 has angled straight corners.. this is neither
 
A 10 bolt cover is not perfectly round, it is slightly out of round.

i did that...it works for me i just had to wait a minute.....i have it on my computer saved but i dont know how to get it on the reply
 
click quick reply, then click go advanced, then scroll down and click manage attachments and find pic to upload.

I think the word your thinking of is oblong. But, an oblong cover is rather obscure!

Im sorry about this im not very good at this computer thing.... i just dont see "manage attachments"
 
Make sure you click the go advanced button, then scroll down and you'll see it. There is a dark heading that says additional options and it's just below that.

Sorry i can't help you then. At any rate, i'm about 100% positive you have a 10 bolt axle. How about e-mail? Can you e-mail me the pic. You can find a link to my e-mail in my profile.
