Hey i found a 78 Chevy k10 for $800.the main problem is it has 8 inch lift springs and i dont want that much lift.i found a nice set of used 2.5 inch springs.what would need to be done to unlift.

Thanks
Probaly has been asked already and sorry for the newbish question.

support the truck by the frame the suspension hangin free.
yank out the old springs.
install new bushings, spring eye bolts, and u-bolts.
put in your 2.5 springs.
tighten, then re-tighten in 100 miles, then in 500 miles.
good to go.

if its got 8" of lift you also need to consider that the driveshafts probably aren't stock and you will need some shorter shocks too. Also check the brake flex lines for proper length.

Really that simple.

and how much do you think i would be able to sell the 8inch springs for?

Steering will also be changed from stock; how it was changed will depend on the redneck-ness of the person who did it.

For 2.5" you might well be able to go back to stock steering stuff; hopefully the truck has a raised arm which I'd keep. You will need to adjust or replace the draglink or the steering wheel will be way off.

i was looking to buy this truck as something to drive and just toy around with.but with all the work to unlift i dont know.

I found a 88 Chevy 1500 for $1200 and it has a 5 speed so i think that would be a little better deal.

How long has the lift been in? Your in the same location as me and rust isn't our friend when it comes to taking things back apart. Soak everything down pretty good before taking apart, and I usually haven't even bothered with trying to unbolt the u-bolts anymore, I just cut them. Brake lines seem to never come apart either if they have been on long enough.

Where are you located at anyway? If interested, I've got some stock length shocks if you are only going with 2 1/2" of lift. I just took them out of my blazer and they looked rather new yet. Yours if you want. I just threw them in the scrap bin last night.

Whoa sir, you better watch yourself...:deal: :D

As said before rust will make things harder....for the front springs just cut the bushings away from the springs with a sawzall then cut the bushing/bolt with a cut-off wheel...that was how i ended up havign to take the last set of springs out of my project...this is of course if you cant get the bolt to spin/come out.

Don't call me sir, I work for a living :D

Anyway, I mean in terms of steering arms welded to the knuckle or scrap iron hose-clamped to the draglink, that kinda stuff.

I tend to stay away from lifted trucks. usually they are ridden hard and put away wet. they look cool because they are already lifted but there is a reason its being sold. there are lots of guys that will pay for used 8" springs.

But if you buy it and want to un-lift it I would just buy a complete lift kit in the height you want. it will come with all new parts so at least the new stuff will go together easier then the old one came apart.

I was just looking at some pictures the guy sent me and i looks like the truck was pretty beat.and he also said that the choke doesnt work anymore.i think its way to much work for the money.

I completely agree...my cousins have done this stuff...think 3pieces of rebar welded together to form their draglink...:eek1: :doah:

This is great advice...unless once you look underneath it and EVERYTHING is spotless...or it has the appearence of bein a "mall crawler"

I now understand the reasons for this...after watching how my freinds take care of their trucks...WOW im not buying from some kid whose got a bigass truck...Im glad my dad put the foot down when i was searching for my truck:bow:
