Spent the weekend getting everything ready for next weekend. We are hunting NW of Denver..North of Kremmling in the 9-10,000ft range. I have a deer doe & buck tag and a cow elk tag. We are camping in a 10x12 military style tent. Have cots, heaters, camp stove..the whole 9 yards. There was a snow storm up there last week where I'm guess they got about 18" of snow. That should get the animals moving, I hope. Taking my Remington 700 CDL SF 30.06. It was good for the 5x6 elk last year. Need more meat as my freezer is just about empty. He is the guy from last year:

we hunted between craig and meeker. got home monday morning empty handed. how did you do?

Wea re heading out Friday morning to setup. First day of 3rd season ins Saturday. Sucks you made the trip and went home empty. I've been hearing that from a few people. My hunting buddy is in contact with a guy that lives in our hunting areas and the animals are there. I thing last weeks huge snowfall up there got them moving. We have another storm coming in tonight. Possbly another 1ft in our hunt area..ugh

our group total seen 6 elk. we got 8" of snow last tuesday/wendsday. after that they headed to the lower elevation, verified by tracks. our main valley we were hunting in had only a few sets of tracks in it. we kept seeing herds of sheep, and even the game warden we talked to said the farmers had trouble getting them off the mountain. so we kinda think that kept them out of our area. once we got out of our valley we seen tons of tracks.

Well, that was a total bust. We got there Friday to sent up the camp site and do some scouting. There was maybe 6" of snow on the ground and we had maybe another 1" over the weekend. There were MANY other hunters in the area and all were complaining about not seeing anything. My buddy saw an elk before shooting time on opening morning but couldn't tell what it was..too dark. He also saw a moose but the Rangers frown on shooting them. Said something about a HUGE fine. I think we drove every county road looking for animals, setup in a variety of places and we saw nothing to shoot at. We hunted Sat-Mon and was going to hunt this morning and then tear camp down. We got up early, stoked the camp stove and both decided to go back to bed. I hope next year they at least decide to flavor the deer/elk tags because eating these will be tough..dammit!

Bummer man, a lot of work but you hunters must like the hunt....

I tried it once but I'm too impatient.
