What could be more topical in "The Garage" than a post about buying a new house with........A GARAGE!!! :waytogo:

It's been a long time since I had space to work, and I know a lot of people have been patiently waiting for me to actually BUILD the things I've been talking about building for the last couple of years. As of today, there is one less excuse (space)...and before much longer I will actually have something equally important (time).

UPDATE:

Well, as anyone who has done a large whole-house move can understand....the process is exhausting, but it's DONE! I was able to complete the move over the weekend, and although there are still a few items left to be transported (Roll Cab Toolbox, 60Gal Upright Compressor) 95% of everything I own is now in the new place.

It's been raining almost constantly since the move, but I was able to snap a few pics to give you a feel of the "most important spaces" :wink1:

The House itself:

Basically a simple New England style farmhouse design. There is an addition off to the right that isn't pictured, since if I stood any further back I'd fall off a big rock!

Shot from the far side of the driveway (debris in foreground is from stump grinding and recent tree removal):

Now....on to the MAN SPACE!!!! :saweet:
It's not much more than a simple 24' x 24' 2-car garage, but it's a lot better than what I had previously...and believe it or not, my K5 fits through the doors...

How many truck-related items can you find in this photo??
Here are a few to get you started:
  • 12-Ton Harbor Freight Jackstands
  • 5-Gallon Bucket of 80/90W Gear Oil
  • 396BBC on floor stand...

Open 2nd Bay allows access to storage above, and great storage for a 1st Gen hardtop...

So there you have it...... the garage where all my new "creations" will be, well .....created. Expect to see plenty of shots of those walls in the backgrounds of my photos in the future. Though I suspect that I'd better hang some fiberglass insulation and moisture barrier if I want to work out there through the winter months!!! :D

Does this mean the bender and welder are being unburied?

Congrats, I'm jealous. Had to build a horse barn last year instead of a garage because the old barn caved in.(Built in1832) Now I have three broken K5's in my gravel driveway. Enjoy the new workspace!

Geez, as a Moderator i thought you would know better than to be posting non relevent info in the garage. Now move this post to the lounge where it belongs. :haha:

Just remember, you're no better than anyone else around here. :D

Yep.... FINALLY!

I can't wait to get in there and start organizing the space and setting up my tools. A well-lit, organized work space is the ultimate luxury IMHO.

TTT

Now with pics and additional commentary.

Oh, yes and Avery it's in the same town.....only about 2.5 miles away from my previous place.

Looks like a nice piece of property.

Have you just "stood" in the garage looking at the walls and attic space yet?...no words...just you, your garage and your dreams...

You know me too well! :D

That will happen on Saturday morning. Hopefully, it will be a nice sunny day, and I can pull the car out of the 2nd bay and enjoy big cup of coffee and start thinking about the space, the organization, new lighting, new outlets....where does the workbench go, storage shelves etc.

I'm sure that by Sunday night things will be much more organized and I'll be having that great "zen" feeling about the whole space.

My first thots in looking at the inside! Followed by "get the wiring in place first!"

Time to start surfing that Garage Journal Forum for ideas?

Yep....wiring too.

VTBlazer will come over and get the main (sub) panel wired for me and I can handle the rest. I have become fearless when it comes to wiring.....must have something to do with the 2000+ feet of wiring, outlets, switches and breakers I installed at my last place over the past 12 months!!!

I need 220V for the compressor and 220V for the welder and plasma cutter. This time around I'm going to make sure I have a circuit for each, so I don't need to keep swapping between cutting and welding like I used to do in the California man space...

Looks awsome Greg!!

Did you do OK with the last house after all the renovations you did?

Actually, I decided to keep that one too.... saves me from paying realtor commissions! :D Actually, I have it rented now and it's more than paying for it's expenses so there wasn't much point in selling it. Plus, Burt4x4 is my hero (real estate tycoon) so I wanted to be more like him... :deal:

Congrats on getting moved in. Great looking house and you can't beat the work space you now have! Can't wait to watch the projects!

Looks sweet!!!

Check your local Lowe's (if there's one nearby...) for lights. I recently scored 6 4-foot dual-bulb lights for my garage there. They were 2-packs, made by Cooper, for commercial service. Normally $32 per pack, they were on clearance at the back of the electrical dept. for $8 per pack. The wire ended up costing me more than the light fixtures! But now I can SEE what I'm working on! :doah:

Good input...but I need to consider something that I'll bet you never think about in Texas....

Do you know that a typical florescent fixture won't even light up when the temps get below freezing??? Apparently, there are special designs for cold environments (more ballast voltage?).... I'm hoping my garage won't be that cold very often, but it's still one of those weird considerations that I never dealt with in NorCal.
