2007 Ford Escape 3.0 litre 4x4. When taking off the vehicle starts to go then loses power for a period of time (no acceleration) but then right before it shifts to 2nd it comes back. Works fine in reverse and in 2nd 3rd and OD. It doesn't matter if you have it in low manually or just put it in drive and it does it every time.

Recent tranny flush but problem existed before that. Any advice or if you have access to the TSB's could you give me the info. Thanks

try it in park and neutral and re creat the problem, that will help determin if its motor or tranny related. most likely its not motor, but never hurts to check. then get the truck off of all 4 wheels and try it in the air and see if it does it without a vehicle load on it. (if it doesnt do it as much it could lead to the fact that the tranny doesnt have as much load on it so its shifting easier, or it could get worse)

sound like its not finding 2nd for a bit, you said it picks back up, does it pick back up before it shifts into second or because it finally did shift into second?

does it do it when hauling ass or slowly accelerating?

1. It will not do it in park or neutral when revving, only when in gear.

2. It does it whether you are accelerating slowly or hammer down and anywhere in between. More noticeable when hammer down.

3. It occurs in first gear it is like it just dies for power then picks back up then shifts. It only does it in first and is definately prior to shift, you can feel first gear pick back up. The rpm's dont rise like its slipping, just bogging for a few seconds, depending on how hard you push on it.

4. Father in law didn't want it on stands and in gear revving so skipped that one.

5. He noticed it was bogging and it was time to do a tranny fluid swap so took it in and had that done with no change.

6. Doing some searching on the net I found two technical service bulletins that talk about the TCM and PCM, But without paying money I can't get all the info. I assume this is throttle control module and maybe power control module?

Seems to me like computer, sensor, module related. We have thought a little about a fuel delivery issue but seems like that would show up in other areas also.

Is the MIL on?

What is the MIL??? No check engine lights or other errors are noticeable.

It will go to the dealer this week and it appears that warranty was 3 yr 36 month but will do some more checking. Of course it has 37 thousand miles.

I copied down the TSB #'s so he can share that with the dealer and maybe get it fixed cheap or free.:haha:

****THANKS FOR ALL THE ADVICE / SUGGESTIONS!!****

Beings its only 1k or so over the bumper to bumper coverage. They should cover it under warranty.. Just say it has been happening for a while and steadily getting worse. I am sure they will cover it. The way things are nowdays I doubt the dealer will want to loose a customer over an issue of few miles.

MIL is malfunction indicator light, same as check engine light.

TCM could be traction control module, since it only does it in one gear, when re-creating the problem, check what speed and rpm that it does it at, if it is at the same speed all the time, i would say its the TCM

the PCM is the powertrain control module, when you were researching it did it say what was affected? the PCM controls a lot so its hard to narrow it down without details.

so if when testing it does it at a certain speed all the time, i would again (even know your father n law does not want to) put it on stands and try to re-create it, if it sets an abs light dont worry it will shut off after you start driving again.

just brainstorming it sounds like it could be the module screwing up or a wheel speed sensor, if its the TCM what is happening is the module is falsely sensing traction loss and is cutting power so it feels like its bogging, and then it senses traction is back and restores power.

oh i just thought of a good test does it have the option to shut off the traction control? if so shut it off and test drive and then if it still does it do the above steps.

Thanks for the phone call Buffblazer. It goes to the dealer today. I am now a couple hundred miles from the vehicle but all the info has been passed on.

Powertrain warranty is 5 yr 50 thou, bumper to bumper was 3 yr 36 thou. He took it to the dealer in Pueblo because its a little bigger than his town.

They want $129.00 for diagnostic / analyze problem then we will see if they will warranty or not.

I lean toward a sensor / module / computer issue.

I will update when we get an answer.

I told him here is the problem and he came up to the front of the vehicle and I pointed to the emblem and said they even circled it for you.:haha: He wasn't that amused:doah:

The ford escape was taken to the dealer and the computer says the trouble is inside the tranny. They thought it was some type of a welded drum inside the tranny but it wasn't the torque converter. FIL couldn't remember the name of the drum. They said the weld failed and it allowed fluid to leak out and the transmission was trying to shift into 2nd and stay in first at the same time. Problem was getting worse on the drive to the dealer also.

It will be covered under warranty. He doesn't know if they will fix this trans or slap in a different one.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!! FIL was impressed with all the input.
