UPDATE! - November Progress Pics of T-Beetle

sweet i dig the little rigs, i want to build one real bad, real cheap. I figure it would be a grat start to lean on a bender.
I just need to get a good job and buy a house first :D
Id like to base mine off a motercycle engine, 650cc or higher, toy axles, toy x-fer case real light and real simple, id like to shoot for under 3000 lbs

I kicked around the motorcycle engine thing for a while....

Problem is.... you need a reverse gear in your tranny. I was thinking of using a Gold Wing, shaft drive setup w/ reverse gear. But when I started gathering parts.... I realized that it was much cheaper to locate a small car engine (like the Mazda that I ended up w/) than to get a suitable motorcycle drivetrain.

BTW... this "beetle" should be well under 2k pounds! :waytogo:

For something like that I'd go with the Zuk t/c since it's divorced and there are at least 3 different lower ratio low range gears offered for it. And it's lighter than the yota part, which isn't divorced.
There are reverser boxes out there, but by themsleves they destroy the cheap aspect of the project.

Ya, mainly with the motercycle thig, i was lookin for more of a sandrail type buggy, But ya i see the benifit of a cheap car engine tranny combo.
Diddent know that about the Zuk case, i threw out the 'yota idea because twin case yota'seem cheap and easy to do
