the day i got my hydro steering set up on i went mud bogging and after that it never quite worked as good. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif i did the preassure and the flow mods to the pump and i was wandering if running a modifyed pump at 5000rpm may have caved the pump has anyone else had this problem the other thing it could be is i didn't get a good enough power steering fluid. i know your soppose to run synthetic but i couldn't find any what oil do you guys run /forums/images/graemlins/peace.gif
it works when driving but when your stoped it's hard to turn and a little jerky. not much power /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

Pumps fried.

When I first went with the wto setup I did the mods per the wto site and I would eat pumps about every 3 weeks or so. After about 15 pumps I decided to leave them stock, they would last about 6 months that way... Now I have a KRC racing pump putting out 4gpm and 1800psi and no problems so far...

if you just did the volume mod and not the preassure mod would he pump last longer /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
what kind of oil do you use
and where did you get your racing pump

Bought the pump from http://www.carshopinc.com

I think any mods will dramatically reduce the life of the pumps.

I use Valvoline synthetic fluid currently and it seems to work fine. My system holds around 8 - 10 quarts of fluid so it gets expensive to fill...

I run a 14x12 cooler with a fan on it made by perma-cool and a spin on sbc style oil filter and then a large resevoir.

/forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gifok heres the thing i had a hard time believing that the simple mods that i did to the pump wrecked it in that short of time being that its a vain pump i thought it would take a lot of wear to make it cave. so out of curiousity i ripped a old pump apart in the shop to see the rundown of how it realy works. well to make a long story short i remodifyed another preassure relief valve by removing the washer to add preassure but also i drilled out the hole that the ball blocks to allow it to relieve the added preassure then i drilled another bypass hole in the other side of the main fitting as well as drilled out the hole that is used to feed to the other side of the preassure relief valve and of course the hole to increase flow to the box and ram. then threw it back in the pump that i thought was screwed fired it up and it worked again just as good as before if not better. i don't know if the extra mods i did did anything or if it was just the different preassure reilief valve but it'll be interesting to see how long it last this time. maby we might have to modify more than we think to make the pumps last /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

My pump is 20 years old and still works fine. I am not going to bother modifying it, it works fine stock.

I'll never understand how so many others have power steering pump problems. I have never had an issue with mine and it's as old as I am.

Mines a little slow at low rpms with the ram on it. I think I'm just going to do the flow mod and go. Its fine driving down the road.
