Alright, here's the deal: Ever since my '73 K5 has gotten back on the road, I've been wanting to upgrade the factory lap belts for the front buckets. Because I plan to do some more precarious offroading in the future, I wanted something that was more of a harness than a regular seat belt.

So here's the question(s):

I really like these 3pt Retractable harnesses from Corbeau http://corbeau.com/products/harness_belts/2-inch_retractable_harness_belts/, anyone have any experience with these?

My main concern is how to mount them. Front buckets in the truck right now are from a Ford(:doah:) fullsize van that my dad picked up years ago. I have a rollbar (no clue if it's factory or whatever). Let me find some pics to better illustrate (Below). Some are old, but give you an idea of what I've got right now.

I have read that harnesses have to be mounted at a certain angle to properly restrain passengers, and need to know how I might go about mounting these, whether to the rollbar, or to some modification/addition. I will have a backseat in the truck, and would also like to keep some semblance of access to the rear seating (the non-tilt-forward seats already make it tough...:doah:).

Basically, both me and my parents want some better restraints since I drive on the street alot, and will do some offroading, and they also are contemplating footing the bill as a birthday present to me. Win-win in my eyes if these will work.

However, I am totally open to all suggestions from you guys, so let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

Here's a couple pics of my setup to give you some ideas. The most important thing for me was to get my seats off the floor and mounted to something sturdy. I figured seatbelts wouldn't do much after my seats ripped through the cheesy metal floors the previous owner replaced the rusted floor with.

I may still have the original install diagram from Corbeau around. Let me see if I can find it.

I knew someone on here had installed them, but couldn't remember who. And after reading I am still worried, b/c both you and 5280k5 have full cages...something I don't want to get into yet. Also you said something about 45degree angles and how far back corbeau wants them mounted....hmmmm...

Found it They put them in ricers and use the rear seat belt mounting point. They just don't want them dropped to the floor right behind the seat. The further back the less of an angle.

Sweet, thanks! Went out and did some mockup with tape. Think this would work if I put some slots in the seat back? Or is the angle too steep?

does that seat have a slot in it?

I WAS gonna do the corbeau retractables, but was concerned with how they would slide thru, and wear the slot in my PRP's... not to mention my cage bar is RIGHT behind the slot/seat... the retractothingamabob prolly wouldn't fit...

so i changed plans, and am ordering some Crowe 4 way, 3 point, Y-style 3" er's in black... like these.....

Nope no seat slot. was gonna either put some in or have a local shop do it. If I had the coin I would pony up for new seats from PRP or Corbeau, but nothing doing, no way I can when it'll easily be $600 for a pair of buckets. It's just looking like there won't be an easy bolt up answer...haha, as if anything thus far with this truck has been...:haha::doah:

i think you can do some off the shelf corbeau's, or even the cheaper prp's for like $400, 450... yeah, my custom prps, shipped where about 6, but i think you can do it a fair amount cheaper.... Beard's are the big dollars..

wasn't there a thread recently with some dirt cheap suspension seats? think they where clearance, only in tan or something.. but a damn good deal, like $200 a set or something.....

Yeah i can do Corbeau's for about 400 for just the seats, but i'll either end up having to buy their bolt-in brackets or fab my own. So that adds on to it, plus the shipping. I might have felt more inclined to go that route if I hadn't just spent all this time and money on getting the custom center console/stereo built and installed... bleh. decisions decisions...

woah Paul you were right, found this thread with a quick search:

http://www.jeepswag.com/empi/buy2/

I am tempted to get the black low backs for $150 pair, and spring for their Universal Mounting Kit that has the sliders, brackets and bases for $155, and come out under $400 shipped....then hope that my parents will pay for at least most of the harnesses...

UPDATE EDIT: Just placed the orders. So 2 Black lowbacks are on the way with all the stuff to mount them (Driver slide, Passenger Tilt), and 2 Red Corbeau Retractable Harnesses from 4WP. From the list I've got, this is my last major expenditure for a long time. Other stuff is little, so hopefully I can live with the dent I have made in my wallet recently.....

You can check his build thread. But I'm pretty sure those seats tarted wearing thru on him. If I member correctly be ordered the corbeau seat covers later on

Old thread, but just wondering how the seats turned out.

Yeah Smokin has got it, and there are pics in my build thread. Seats were a good deal and ride great, but the fabric in the center section (not the vinyl) was starting to disintegrate. I ordered some Corbeau seat covers, and they ended up being too small.

Went by the upholstery shop today and got a quote on recovering both the suspension seats and the factory rear bench. Should look pretty sweet.

Well that sucks about the seats ripping and seat covers, hopefully the shop will hook you up, getting my bench redone also to match whatever seats I end up with. Thanks.

well that wont be too bad. ironically now after all this it would have just been cheaper to get some real corbs!

you gotta go and up date the thread title on this.
