Update - Sub Boxes and Door Pods

OK, I have been busy today...I have the speaker pods nearly done - I am waiting to get my new speakers so I can cut the holes then finish the lamination and get them installed.

The sub box is comming along nicely. I have the wood all cut and I have glued most of it together. I will start laminating it on Tuesday! I will keep the site updated. Let me know what you think.....

Hey Chris,

That's starting to look a whole lot like what I sketched out for you!!! Nice job.

Not being as familiar with the fiberglass processes....it sure looks like a lot of work. You said it was easy, but I can't say that it looks that way from a "novice perspective".

BTW -> I told a couple other guys that you are "the man" when it comes to fiberglass repair and info. I told them to search the archives for your previous posts on hardtop repair, but don't be surprised if you get a few PM's also.....

Did you ever start to repair your hardtop????

Just wondering how things are going.

As far as difficulty, yea it is a little more work than just carpeting it but I find it fun and it gives me stuff to do on my days off. Also, with fiberglass, the box will be completely waterproof. Carpet and MDF can get nasty of water gets in them and you do not know about it - mildew, rot, smell, etc....

This sub box can be thrown into a pool and nothing will happen, I will just have to replace the speaker. I have found over the years that water always manages to find its way into my K5, as I am sure it finds its way into most other K5's. Anyways, let me know about your hardtop.

I hear you on the waterproof thing....mine's got 3 coats of urethane sealer (inside &amp; out!) to accomplish the same thing....

The hardtop is still bolted to the truck. I will need to modify my "Pulley's From Hell" device and lower the cranking part closer to the floor. That will allow me to lower the top onto a couple sawhorses, so I can work at a more reasonable height. (if you don't know what that is...see my photo gallery!)

Plus it's too damn cold right now.... Oh, and I signed up for a welding class at the local Community College...so I'll be busy a couple nights a week with that. I need a lot of fabrication-type stuff on my truck now, so that's the priority. Maybe in the Spring I'll pull the top, and then I'll have all summer to patch and repair it.

Too bad you are not in South Florida - I'd love to work on your hard top. I have more fiberglass repair in my future. If I get the boat pictured on my home page, I will have 5 or 6 significant fiberglass projects to complete. The helm area of the boat has some bad fiberglass cracks/holes. they are all one curved surfaces (one is on a 90 degree curved surface) which makes it more difficult. So, my hands are full for the forseable future - but that is the stuff I love!!!! Keep me posted on the top - I'd love to see pics of the damage and repair.

Nice work! I like the pods. I may borrow your design if you don't mind. I am about to get started on my new sound system.

I am only about 2 1/2 hours north of you in Homestead. I'll have to drive down sometime so I can look at the "Hippo".

Come on down!!! I am always looking for someone to hang out with or someone to help with repairs. I also love helping other people fix their stuff, so if you ever need help on a major project, let me know! If I get the boat pictured on my website, I'll be welcoming people down to go Mahi fishing! If you need any help let me know.....hold off on the pods until I finish mine....just so I can give a final review. The sub box, however, is turning out better than I had thought.
