like 11' 11 1/2" where the lift is. Lift stands about 11' 9" to the top of it. There is just enough room that we were able to install the cables and hydraulic lines with it erected. If you have a keen enough eye, you can see that the wall behind the lift is 3 sheets of plywood high (4'x3= 12").
With the ceiling so close we actually added another safety feature. Took 2 4x4s and lag bolted them into the ceiling joists(through the plywood ceiling), on either side of the lift. So if the upper portion decided it wanted to fall forward or backward, its just another little bit of support. We will never know if it is actually helping(hope to never find out) but for the added like $30, there was no reason not to go ahead and do it.
Whenver we move the lift will stay in the garage. Not that we couldn't remove it, but the addition to resale value and pain in the ass of removing it, we will just buy another new one, haha.
