I’m looking to re-wire my blazer. Freshen it all up. As in all new wires from fuse box to junction inside the engine bay,

What is the preferred kit to buy? I see ezwire has a few and painless. What do you guys recommend?

I have a 1978 k5 if you need more info just let me know.

EZ wiring is far more affordable but I don’t see the junction box for inside the engine bay...

The difference is about $500 I’m leaning towards EXwirinf but open to suggestions
 
when i did my trans am i should have spent more and got the better harness. It was a pain cause you had to make the grounds in the painless that i bought
if you can afford it get the better if not get ez just more work
 
I've used all off them at some time. The more complete kitsch with grounds are more money. I ended up redoing most of the ground connections just to make it cleaner.

Is a 21 circuit enough? What do they mean by “ Bulkhead Firewall Pass-Through“

Could you link one you would recommended, assuming money didn’t matter...
 
Bulk head firewall pass through is like the factory fuse block. 21 circuit has always been enough.

Make a list of everything you need to run. Is the truck tbi?

Nah,
350/350... the only non stock items are digital gauges and electric radiator fans and radio... everything else electric is stock

My box still uses the glass fuses.

I gather these two would suffice. Is the $300 more really worth it or necessary? I see zip ties and sockets for the lights added

If your light sockets are good, don't bother and solder the new wire to your sockets pig tails.

Do you have power windows and locks?
 
Be sure to feed all of the wires to where they need to be before cutting. Also order some sheath of some kind to run it in.

Is there any customizing that will need to be done? I’m probably going to have to outsource this job. I am so bad at electrical. Mechanical stuff I can manage but electrical is a bit too far.

Others have told me the $700 Painless one is what I need, by Painless themselves. And of course they want to sell the most expensive kit they offer. But other Chevy guys on instagram say go with the $700.

I just can’t see spending $700 for a kit that a $185 will do more than suffice for what I need powered. Especially when that extra $ could be better utilized for the labor charge.

$700 has the “GM bulkhead” but the $185 has the adapter that screws right into the fire wall. So does that even matter to have “GM bulkhead”?
 
No. The ezwire is based of a gm fuse block.

Personal opinion.
Go with the cheaper kit. It's super straight forward. You can do it. Buy some soldering tools, an wiring helping hand from harbor freight. image_22585.jpg

Watch a couple videos on YouTube on how to solder. Use the pigtails off your old harness.

I can solder what is funny or embarrassing about my hesitation to do the electrical. I used to do basic electrical repair on CPM machines and soldering PC boards etc. but it was many moons ago. But I did the grunt not the troubleshooting... “here solder this resistor there” type stuff.

$700 is a hard pill to swallow for wires, fuse block and connectors.

That's alot of bread to spend on some wires. Save it for something else.
 
Do it yourself and save a bunch of money. Unless you do not have the time. Very few shops do a decent job on wiring. The good ones are pricey. Also, if you do it yourself and need to upgrade or change something, you will know it inside and out.

The wire are labeled as to what they are for.
