My internal voltage regulator spiked, so I just upgraded my alternator from stock to 120 amps. Gonna go dual batteries next!

Figured I'd upgrade wiring from Alt back to Batt...I then see the fusible link in between the alternator back to the battery on the return path...

So if I upgrade my return wire from 10 gauge to, say, 6 gauge, what do I do w/ the fusible link? Upgrade from 16 gauge to 14 guage?

Alternator -> 6 gauge wire -> fusible link (gauge?) -> Battery

Thanks in advance.

Leave it alone. It's meant to act as a last chance fuse in case you get a direct short.

You can actually buy the fusible link in almost any length so if you need to replace it, see the nice people at Napa. they'll help you out.

The general rule of thumb is two sizes lighter than the wire you're protecting. So with ten gauge you'd want a 14 gauge fuse link.

8 gauge is sufficient for the alternator and install the fuse link at the battery not at the alternator.
