Has anyone ever made a better than factory version of a power window harness? i know some people dont like them for different reasons, didnt know if anyone ever made their own version using relays and what not. id still like to plug into the stock fuse panel.

I searched, and short of digging through individual build threads i didnt find anything.

There are a couple of threads about using relays for the power windows. Going from the fuse panel is OK, because you are still taking the voltage drop of the window switches away, but you will get better results by pulling power from somewhere better underhood. I measured the voltage drops in the window system once and it seems to me with a window stalled the fuse panel is already a whole volt below the battery.

One of these days I am going to build a new factory type harness for my truck. Just dont have the extra money at the moment. Was maybe even going to sell a few once I had one made for a test fit.

Not a direct answer to your question, but i would reccomend checking grounds first. Put new engine to frame, frame to body grounds on. Then check your main cables; bat to starter, starter to distribution block, dist block to fuse panel.

I was having troubles recently, and found a horrible connection on the dist block side of the battery to dist block wire. EVERYTHING works better now. Windows, rear window, etc.
Also, cleaning/lubing window motor parts helps a ton.

Just suggesting you check all your wiring and maintenance before you mod the wiring harness to bandaid other problems ,you know?

Good luck!

Just did this a few weeks ago, it made a big difference. I did run power form the distubution block on the firewall.

teck any pictures of your install? Part numbers of the relays and gauges of wires used?

Im thinking about buying a set of power doors since the manual ones on my rig are rusted beyond repair and the driverside is off track and etc, plus its a mod i wanna do to my 80 camaro later on and i just like playing with things and trying them out (Reason me and dad bought the truck).
