Upgrading a \'70 to disk brakes

Ok, I want disk brakes. I know i need the master cylinder, prop valve and booster. Im just going to get the whole axle to make it easier. Someone suggested I use an axle out of a later truck because the U-joints or knuckles were bigger or somethin like that. What year range am I looking at? I want it to have the same spring and shock locations and dont want a 10 bolt. Any Help would be great. Thanks.

Any D44 '73 and later would be good b/c it has the 297-X axle joints. The pre-'73 D44s have smaller 260-X axle joints from what I understand. The spring pads and shock mounts are the same as your current axle.

How do I make sure I dont get a 10 bolt axle? Did certain trucks have 10 bolts and others have dana 44's? Thanks for your help.

Whats wrong with 10 bolts? They are just as strong as a dana 44 and its easier to find parts for the 10 bolts.

There is nothin wrong with 10 bolts. I just have a place where I have access to very cheap Dana 44 parts. And I already have some new parts on my 44 that I would like to transfer over.
